Aria's Pov
We stepped into the hotel lobby, and I almost stopped in my tracks. The interior was stunning high ceilings with wooden beams, soft pendant lights casting a warm glow, and a mix of modern elegance with cozy, beachy charm. Large glass doors opened onto a terrace that overlooked the sparkling ocean, and the faint scent of salt and tropical flowers made the space feel fresh and inviting.
Ethan was already there, standing near the check-in desk. His easy, slightly smug smile then pulled out a set of keys from his pocket. "Alright, everyone," he said, voice calm and confident. "Here are the keys to your rooms."
He handed Aubrey and me one key, glancing briefly at us. "You two are sharing this one. Caleb, yours is next to them. Liam, yours is at the end of the hallway next to mine."
Sharing a room with Aubrey made me comfortable, though it was a little funny suddenly the idea of being "away from home" with friends felt very real.
Caleb rolled his eyes and muttered something about "organized like a hotel manager" under his breath, making Aubrey laugh.
We followed him upstairs down the hallway, passing rooms with sliding doors that opened onto small balconies. Each door had a polished brass handle, and the walls were decorated with minimalistic art: framed prints of waves, seashells, and sun-drenched beaches. The rooms themselves were airy and bright, with whitewashed walls, soft rugs, and large windows letting in the light. The beds were neatly made with crisp, white linen, accented with throw pillows in soft pastel blues and sandy tones perfectly in tune with the seaside atmosphere.
"This is… amazing," I breathed, taking in the room we'd be staying in. Aubrey immediately began unpacking her things, squealing softly at the view from our balcony. The ocean stretched endlessly before us, the waves shimmering under the afternoon sun.
"I can't believe this is real," Aubrey said, leaning on the balcony railing. "Look at that water!"
I stepped beside her, letting the breeze whip through my hair. "It's gorgeous," I admitted, a little awed.
Caleb, of course, had to be dramatic. "Alright, everyone, rules of the hotel: Step one enjoy the view. Step two enjoy the beach. Step three avoid sunburns. Step four optional but highly encouraged: have the most fun ever."
I laughed, shaking my head at him. "You make it sound like a survival guide."
By the time we were settled in our room, the sun was starting to dip a little lower, casting a golden glow across the sand. We decided to head down to the beach before dinner. Walking through the warm sand, I felt the stress of school and everyday life melt away. The beach had lounge chairs scattered under large umbrellas, a small bar serving colorful drinks, and the gentle sound of waves made everything feel peaceful yet exciting at the same time.
Aubrey immediately kicked off her sandals and ran toward the water, squealing as the waves lapped at her feet. Caleb followed behind, pretending to trip over a lounge chair before diving into the surf with a dramatic splash. I stayed back for a moment, laughing quietly at them, before stepping into the water myself. The cool water sent a shiver up my spine, but it was refreshing, invigorating.
Liam was already there, leaning casually on a beach chair, his hair slightly windswept and his gaze on the horizon. When he noticed me, he offered a small smile just enough to make my heart skip a beat.

We left the water behind, our towels slung over our shoulders, and made our way to the firewood area just outside the hotel. The sun was dipping lower now, casting a golden-orange glow across the sand and the gentle waves beyond. A few fire pits had already been lit, crackling softly, sending up warm, flickering light and the comforting smell of smoke mingling with the salty ocean breeze.
Caleb came over with a tray of drinks, handing one to each of us. "Here you go victory drinks for surviving your first beach session of the day," he said with a grin, balancing the tray carefully. The colorful beverages had little umbrellas and fruit garnishes, condensation dripping onto the firewood below.
I took mine, sighing as the cool glass pressed against my palm. Aubrey plopped down beside me, shaking sand from her hair. "This is perfect," she said, her eyes sparkling in the firelight.
Liam was already seated across from us, casually leaning back, one leg stretched out. His gaze lingered on me a moment longer than necessary, and I felt that familiar flutter in my chest.
Caleb settled in next to me, kicking his feet toward the fire. "So… what's the plan now? Nap? Stare at the waves? Or do we actually entertain ourselves?"
Aubrey's eyes lit up. "I've got an idea , Truth or Dare!"
The suggestion immediately brought a few laughs and nods of agreement. Liam raised an eyebrow, a small smirk tugging at his lips. "Truth or Dare, huh? Alright."
Caleb grinned, leaning forward, already looking mischievous. "Perfect. Then we'll start with Aria. Let's see what secrets you're hiding."
I groaned, taking a small sip of my drink. "Why me first?"
"Because," Caleb said, his grin widening, "you look like you're full of surprises."
I rolled my eyes, laughing softly, though I couldn't deny a small thrill ran through me.
I took a deep breath and set my drink down, the fire warming my hands. "Fine," I said, "I'll start."
Caleb's grin widened. "So truth or dare ," he said immediately. "Let's see what secrets Aria's hiding."
I rolled my eyes but answered honestly. "Alright… truth, then. Ask."
Caleb leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "Hmm… okay… who's your crush?"
I blinked, surprised. The group fell silent for a moment, the crackling fire filling the space. My cheeks heated slightly. "Uh… no one," I said quickly, hoping it sounded casual.
Liam's lips twitched, almost like he was holding back a smile. He leaned back in his chair, watching me with a calm, almost unreadable expression.
"Uh-huh," Caleb said knowingly, raising an eyebrow. "Sure, Aria. No one. I'll just take that as a maybe."
Aubrey giggled, nudging me. "Ignore him. He's impossible."
Ethan, who had been sitting quietly at the edge of the circle, finally spoke up, his voice low and smooth. "Are we really starting with crushes? Seems a little… predictable."
Caleb looked at him, mock-offended. "Predictable? Come on, E, you're the one who's been silent this whole time. You've got to contribute to the chaos."
Ethan just smirked slightly, leaning back against the sand, arms crossed. "I'm observing," he said. "Someone has to keep this from getting completely out of hand."
"Observing, huh?" Caleb said, shaking his head. "That's code for boring."
I laughed, taking another sip of my drink. The firelight reflected off everyone's faces, making Liam's gaze seem warmer somehow, and Ethan… well, Ethan was quiet, but there was something about the way he watched the group that felt tense, like he was measuring everyone.
"Okay," Aubrey said, bouncing slightly, "my turn. Truth or dare?"
"Dare," Caleb answered immediately, as if daring was the only acceptable choice.
Aubrey smirked. "I dare you… to run into the water and back without screaming."
Caleb's grin spread across his face. "Challenge accepted." He bolted toward the surf, sand flying behind him, and let out a fake scream as he plunged into the waves. We all burst into laughter, watching him splash back, dripping wet, but triumphant.
I shook my head, smiling despite myself. Liam chuckled softly at the spectacle, his eyes flicking to me briefly, and I felt my stomach do a small flip.
Ethan, meanwhile, just watched Caleb run, hands in his pockets, expression unreadable. "You guys are ridiculous," he muttered, though the corner of his mouth hinted at amusement.
"Ridiculous?" Caleb called back from the water. "Nah, we're having fun. You should try it sometime, E."
Ethan only shook his head, settling back into the sand, still quiet, still observing.

The fire crackled, sparks flying softly into the dark sky. We were all gathered close, wrapped in towels and laughter. The night air carried the scent of salt and wood smoke, and our drinks glowed faintly in the firelight.
Caleb had already done his dare, earning enough laughter for the night. Now it was Ethan's turn to choose.
He leaned forward slightly, his expression calm but sharp under the orange glow. "Alright," he said, eyes glancing around the circle before stopping on Aubrey. "Truth or dare?"
Aubrey tilted her head, smiling faintly. "Truth."
Ethan's lips curved into a small smirk. "Do you still think about your first love?"
The question made everyone pause for half a second. Aubrey blinked, a little caught off guard, but quickly masked it with a soft laugh. "Maybe sometimes," she said casually, though her tone hinted at something deeper.
Caleb coughed dramatically, breaking the tension. "Oh, look at you getting sentimental."
Aubrey threw a towel at him, laughing. "Shut up, Caleb."
The moment lightened again, and the game rolled on until it came to me. I shifted slightly, hugging my knees as I looked toward Liam. "Truth or dare?"
Liam's gaze lifted from the fire to meet mine, the reflection of the flames flickering in his eyes. "Truth," he said smoothly.
I hesitated for a second, unsure what to ask him then finally, "What's something most people get wrong about you?"
A quiet grin tugged at his lips. "That I don't care about anything," he said after a moment. "I do… I just don't always show it."
Something in the way he said it made me pause. His tone wasn't cocky or casual it was honest. For a heartbeat, our eyes met, and the noise around us seemed to fade.
Caleb, of course, broke it again. "Wow, deep answer, Knight. Didn't know you had that side."
Liam just smirked. "There's a lot you don't know."
The game went on, everyone teasing, laughing, passing turns. When it finally circled back to Ethan, his attention flicked toward me. His voice came out steady, but with that calm curiosity he always carried.
"Aria," he said, "truth or dare?"
I smiled lightly. "Truth."
He leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees. "Have you ever been in a relationship before?"
For a moment, I hesitated not because I didn't know the answer, but because of the memories that tugged at the back of my mind. "Yes," I said quietly.
Caleb glanced at me, interested. "And?"
"We broke up," I said, keeping my tone even.
"How come?" Caleb pressed gently, not teasing this time just curious.
I exhaled slowly. "He cheated," I said. My fingers traced the edge of my cup. "With my best friend."
The fire popped softly, filling the silence that followed.
Caleb shook his head, his usual grin replaced by something closer to disbelief. "What an asshole," he muttered. Then he gave a small shrug, the corner of his mouth lifting again. "Anyway… his loss."
A faint smile tugged at my lips. "Yeah. Maybe."
Aubrey leaned a little closer, her shoulder brushing mine. Liam's gaze flicked to me again quiet, thoughtful, like he wanted to say something but didn't. Ethan, meanwhile, just stared into the fire, unreadable as ever.
The flames danced, throwing shifting light across our faces, and for a moment, none of us spoke. It was one of those rare, unplanned silences that didn't feel awkward just real.
