The sun was beginning to set over Loguetown, stretching the shadows of the white buildings. Nami and Yogiri continued their quiet stroll through the lively streets. The city buzzed with a particular energy: sailors loading crates, merchants calling out about their goods, and a few wary-looking bounty hunters scanning the crowd.
Nami was walking more slowly now, as if she wanted to take in every detail. She stopped in front of a small shop selling navigation instruments: compasses, sextants, spyglasses. Her eyes lit up.
"Look at this…" she murmured, picking up a beautiful brass compass. "This is exactly what we'll need for the Grand Line."
Yogiri stopped beside her without saying a word. He looked at the object, then at Nami, then back at the object.
"Do you need it?" he asked simply.
Nami hesitated, glanced at the price, then set the compass back down with a small sigh.
"Yes, but… we don't have enough money yet. We'll have to be careful."
They resumed walking. The crowd grew thicker near the center. People spoke in low voices about the Grand Line, legendary pirates, and the bounty that had just been posted everywhere.
Nami suddenly stopped in front of a wall covered with wanted posters. Among them was a rough portrait of Yogiri: black hair with two blue streaks, a blank expression. The amount was clearly visible: 30,000,000 berries.
She frowned.
"They've already posted this here… That was fast."
Yogiri looked at the poster without any particular emotion.
"That's me."
Nami sighed.
"Yes. And with thirty million, we'll have to be careful. Loguetown is full of people looking to make easy money."
She discreetly tore the poster down and crumpled it into her pocket.
"Come on. We'll keep walking, but let's avoid crowded places."
They moved away from the main square and took a quieter street, lined with small shops and houses with colorful shutters. The atmosphere was more peaceful. Children played in an alley, women hung out laundry. Nami seemed to relax a little.
At one point, she stopped in front of a small terrace where an old sailor was selling tea and simple cakes. The smell was pleasant.
"Want to sit for five minutes?" she suggested.
Yogiri nodded.
"Okay."
They sat down at a small wooden table. Nami ordered two teas and two slices of cake. When the server brought the drinks, she slid one toward Yogiri.
"Try it. It's warm—it feels good after all those days at sea."
Yogiri took the cup in his hands and took a slow sip. He stayed silent for a moment, then said:
"It's good."
Nami smiled.
"See? Even you can enjoy the little things."
They stayed there for a long while, watching people pass by. The sun slowly sank, painting the city in golden hues.
Nami finally spoke in a low voice:
"Tomorrow, we'll look for a better ship. Something sturdier to cross into the Grand Line. But tonight… we just enjoy the city. No rushing."
Yogiri looked around, then back at her.
"Alright. We enjoy it."
The evening breeze began to blow, carrying the scent of the sea. Loguetown continued to live around them, indifferent to the bounty hanging over the boy with blue streaks.
For now, they were just two anonymous travelers among many others.
Nami and Yogiri continued their stroll without rushing. The city of Loguetown pulsed gently around them. The streets were still lively in the late afternoon, but the bustle remained manageable. Merchants were packing up their stalls, sailors were returning to the port in noisy groups, and the smell of fresh bread mixed with that of the sea.
Nami walked with a light step, her eyes everywhere. She stopped in front of a shop window displaying navigation instruments: brass compasses, old sextants, spyglasses. Her fingers brushed the glass, almost longingly.
"Look at this…" she murmured. "This is exactly what we'll need later."
Yogiri stopped beside her. He observed the items for a moment, then turned his head toward Nami.
"Do you want one?"
Nami hesitated, looked at the displayed price, then gently shook her head with a small sigh.
"Yes, but… we don't have enough money yet. We'll have to be patient."
They resumed walking down a narrower street lined with houses with colorful shutters. The crowd was thinner there. Children were playing near a fountain, their laughter echoing between the walls. Nami seemed to relax a little more with each step.
That's when a marine in a white uniform, a young lieutenant with short hair, passed near them. He was carrying a stack of documents and walking quickly. As he crossed paths with Yogiri, his gaze slid over him… then suddenly stopped.
The lieutenant frowned. He slowed down, took a few more steps, then discreetly turned around. His eyes fixed on the two clearly visible blue streaks in Yogiri's black hair. His face paled slightly. He froze for a second, then turned back and quickly walked away into a side alley, his pace much faster than before.
Nami, who was looking at a small fabric shop, hadn't noticed anything. She continued speaking calmly:
"You know, it's strange to be here without having to hide all the time. For six years, I had to watch every word, every move. Now… we can just walk. Look at shop windows. It's almost too calm."
Yogiri didn't reply right away. He had seen the marine. He had noticed the way his gaze lingered on him. But he said nothing. He simply kept walking beside Nami, his hands in his pockets.
They arrived at a small shaded square with a fountain in the center. Nami sat on the stone edge and motioned for Yogiri to do the same. She took out the map she had bought earlier and unfolded it on her knees.
"Look. If we leave from Loguetown, the most direct route to Reverse Mountain goes through…"
While she explained calmly, tracing lines with her finger, the young lieutenant was almost running through the streets. He arrived out of breath in front of a Marine building, a little away from the center. He ran up the steps two at a time and entered the office without knocking.
Captain Smoker was there, sitting behind his desk with a cigar in his mouth. He was reading a report, looking focused. The smoke from his cigar drifted slowly through the room.
"Captain Smoker!" the lieutenant called out, still panting. "I… I think I saw him! The kid from the wanted poster! The one with the two blue streaks!"
Smoker slowly raised his eyes without removing his cigar.
"Where?"
"Near the musicians' square, then at the small square with the fountain. He's walking around with a girl with orange hair. They look calm, like tourists. But it's definitely him. The blue streaks… it's exactly like in the portrait."
Smoker remained silent for a moment. He took a long drag on his cigar, then slowly exhaled the smoke.
"You're sure?"
"Certain, sir. I saw him up close. Cold expression, black hair with two clearly visible blue streaks. He perfectly matches the description sent by Captain Nezumi."
Smoker placed his cigar in the ashtray and slowly stood up. He took his jitte from where it rested against the wall and slipped it behind his back.
"Good. Do nothing for now. Don't approach him. I'll handle it personally."
The lieutenant nodded, visibly relieved.
"Yes, sir."
Smoker left the office with a calm but determined stride. He went down the steps and headed toward the city center. He wasn't running. He was walking. As always.
Meanwhile, Nami and Yogiri were still sitting by the fountain. Nami continued explaining her route on the map, her voice soft and focused.
"…and after Reverse Mountain, everything will change. The currents, the climate, the islands… It'll be completely different from the East Blue."
Yogiri listened without interrupting. He looked at the map, then at Nami's face as it came alive while she spoke. He said almost nothing, but he was there, attentive in his own way.
Nami looked up at him and smiled.
"You really are listening, huh? Even if you don't talk much."
"Yes. I'm listening."
She rolled up the map and carefully put it away.
"We'll keep walking a bit more before looking for a place to sleep. I want to see the port more closely. Maybe we'll find a good ship to buy or to… discreetly borrow."
They stood up and resumed their calm walk. The city was gradually lighting up with evening lanterns. The atmosphere was becoming softer, almost warm.
They didn't know yet that, a few streets away, Captain Smoker was calmly heading in their direction, his jitte resting on his shoulder and the smoke from his cigar fading into the evening air.
Loguetown continued to live around them, indifferent for now.
But the calm of this walk might not last much longer.
Nami and Yogiri continued their walk without rushing. The sun had almost disappeared behind the rooftops, leaving the city bathed in a soft golden light. Lanterns were beginning to light up one by one, giving the streets a warm, almost magical feel.
Nami was walking a little closer to Yogiri now, as if she were fully enjoying this rare moment of calm. She looked at the illuminated shop windows, the small restaurants where people were dining outside, and the ships anchored in the distance at the port.
"It's beautiful, don't you think?" she said softly. "No fish-men, no constant threats… Just a normal city. I had almost forgotten this existed."
Yogiri nodded slowly.
"Yes. It's calm."
They turned into a wider street leading toward the port. The crowd was still there, but more scattered. Sailors were returning to their ships, merchants were closing their shops. The air smelled of salt and sun-warmed wood.
That was when everything changed.
At the end of the street, a group of marines appeared. There were about twenty of them, walking in tight formation but not running. At their head, a tall man with spiky white hair and slightly gray skin moved forward with a calm and determined stride. A lit cigar hung from his lips. He carried a jitte on his shoulder. Captain Smoker.
Behind him, the marines kept their hands near their weapons, but had not drawn them yet. They advanced slowly, as if they didn't want to cause panic in the street.
Nami spotted them first. She froze slightly, her hand instinctively tightening around Yogiri's arm.
"Yogiri… Marines. A lot of them. And the one in front… he's not just a regular soldier."
Yogiri turned his head in their direction. He observed Smoker for a long moment, without changing his expression. His two blue streaks were clearly visible under the lantern light.
Smoker stopped about twenty meters away from them. His men slowly spread out behind him, discreetly blocking the street. The captain took a long drag on his cigar, then slowly exhaled the smoke.
"You," he said in a deep, steady voice, looking directly at Yogiri. "The kid with the two blue streaks. You match the wanted poster perfectly. Thirty million berries. Dead or alive."
The street suddenly became much quieter. Passersby gradually moved away, sensing the rising tension. Some whispered, others quickly left.
Nami stepped slightly in front of Yogiri, her voice tense but controlled:
"Wait… We're not looking for trouble. We're just passing through."
Smoker didn't even look at her. His eyes remained fixed on Yogiri, cold and calculating.
"I received a report from Captain Nezumi before he… disappeared. He said you eliminated Arlong and his entire crew without leaving a trace. And that you threatened the Marines." He took another drag from his cigar. "I don't know what your power is, kid. But here, in Loguetown, we don't let threats wander the streets."
The marines behind him began to move forward slowly, forming a semicircle. They still hadn't drawn their weapons, but their hands were ready.
Yogiri remained perfectly still. He looked at Smoker, then at the marines, then back at Smoker. His voice came out calm, almost flat:
"You want to arrest me?"
Smoker smiled slightly around his cigar.
"I want to understand what you are. And if you're really as dangerous as they say… then yes, I'm going to arrest you."
Nami clenched her teeth. The tension in the air was now palpable. The last passersby had stepped away, leaving the street almost empty around them.
The evening wind blew gently, making the lanterns sway.
Yogiri still hadn't moved. He looked Smoker straight in the eyes, without fear, without anger. Just that same cold neutrality that defined him.
The situation was suspended. Smoker and his twenty marines were waiting. Nami was holding her breath. And Yogiri… simply stood there, as if time itself didn't matter.
Night was falling over Loguetown.
And the calm of their walk had just come to an end.
