Chapter 50 - An Indescribable Penguin Screech

In the end, despite all of Shirou's various attempts, his Originium Arts adaptability was rated as Deficient.

Yith had no choice, no matter what kind of Originium-based weapon they tried, Shirou simply could not activate it. And yet, he could effortlessly project dual blades and bows.

That left Yith completely puzzled. In the end, he could only conclude that Shirou's ability was something special, and based purely on measurable data, he had to assign a "Deficient" rating.

After all, Originium Arts adaptability had to be judged strictly by data, Yith could not rely on personal interpretation.

"I have a few questions about your abilities. Would that be alright?"

With the testing phase concluded, Yith finally moved on to asking questions.

This was part of the post-test evaluation but mostly it satisfied his own curiosity.

"Sure. What do you want to know?"

Shirou could already guess that Yith was curious about Projection Magecraft. From the moment he first projected Kanshou and Bakuya, Yith's attention had been fixed on them.

"I apologize if this is intrusive, but I'm extremely curious about your abilities. If you cannot answer that's fine but if you can, it would be greatly appreciated."

Yith spoke politely and handed Shirou a damp towel.

"That's fine."

Taking it, Shirou wiped the dust from his face.

"Excellent. Please have a seat. I may have quite a few questions."

After seating Shirou, Yith began asking in detail—

From the principles behind the ability to the effects of each weapon, he carefully recorded everything Shirou explained.

Shirou did his best to describe things and even projected weapons directly for Yith to examine.

By the end, with Yith wearing a deeply satisfied expression, Shirou wrapped up the test and left the facility.

The full results and evaluation would be organized and sent to him later, so for now, Shirou only knew his general scores, not the detailed conclusions.

Still, from Yith's brief comments, even Shirou could tell—he did have some level of strength in this world.

But only some.

Against factors like terrain, numbers, and other conditions, he could still be overwhelmed. That much, Shirou understood clearly.

Mana was the core of his combat ability. Without it, he was just an ordinary person.

And during the test just now, he had used about 20% of his mana.

Though that was an extreme case, being in a confined underground space limited his options.

In an open area, he could simply keep his distance and bombard enemies with Broken Phantasms or volleys of arrows, which was far more efficient.

But that could not always be controlled.

Ring ring…

His phone rang again, and Shirou immediately picked it up.

"Hello? Shirou, are you done over there yet?"

Exusiai's voice came through.

"Just finished. What's up?"

He glanced at the time, it was already late afternoon approaching evening.

He did not need to worry about dinner today, since Penguin Logistics was supposed to handle it.

So the call confused him a bit.

"Uh… well… you know… it's Thursday today, right?"

Exusiai hesitated before finally speaking.

"…And?"

Shirou could not think of anything special about today.

"Well—LFC has a huge deal today! How about we get that for dinner?"

Exusiai took a deep breath and blurted it all out.

That feeling of a kid asking their parents for junk food… how nostalgic.

She thought to herself.

"…That's it?"

Shirou was speechless.

He thought it was something important—turns out it was just this?

"Ahem… it's just that you do not eat fried food very often, so I was not sure if you liked it."

"It's fine once in a while. Eating it too often is not good for you."

Thinking about how little they had had fried food this month, Shirou decided it was acceptable.

"That's great! We will be home soon!"

Exusiai hung up immediately after saying that.

"…."

Looking at the ended call, Shirou quietly put his phone away and headed back to the dorm.

Meanwhile, after organizing all of Shirou's data, Yith brought the report to the Boss.

The Boss was lounging comfortably in a chair, enjoying music, holding a glass of red wine paired with a gold chain around his neck, radiating pure "rich boss" vibes.

"Yo, Yith. What's this? You came in person? Do you not usually avoid going out if you can?"

Seeing Yith arrive, the Boss sat up.

"Shirou's data is very interesting. Also, some of it needs to remain confidential, so I brought it directly."

That was only half true.

The detailed report did require confidentiality but the real reason was that Yith wanted to see the Boss's reaction in person.

"Confidential? Now that's interesting."

Hearing that, the Boss immediately became intrigued.

Taking the report, he flipped through it.

"Standard, standard, standard… Excellent, Outstanding? Deficient?"

At first, seeing "Standard" for physical strength, mobility, and endurance, he thought Yith was overreacting.

But when he reached tactical planning, combat technique, and Originium Arts adaptability—he froze.

He had expected Shirou to be capable but not Outstanding.

That was a rare rating.

As for "Deficient"… compared to "Outstanding," it was practically meaningless.

"This kid's really that strong?"

The Boss trusted Yith but the results still surprised him.

"Take a look at this, Boss. You will understand."

Yith handed over a tablet displaying an edited video.

After all, expecting the Boss to analyze a dozen simultaneous feeds like he did was not realistic. A good employee catered to the boss.

"What's with all the mystery…"

Muttering, the Boss tapped play.

Then his expression froze like an old man staring at a phone on the subway.

"Incomprehensible penguin screechLungmen profanityYanese profanity—!"

After watching the video, he unleashed a string of highly inappropriate exclamations nearly throwing the tablet in the process.

Yith simply stood nearby, quietly watching his boss lose his mind.

Extremely satisfying.

"…Hah… hah… This kid is that insane? Did you record details about his ability?"

After venting, the Boss took a breath and turned to Yith for more information.

He needed to know what exactly was that ability?
