Chapter 5 - Ch4- The Sahara Arrival...

Chapter 4: The Sahara Arrival

The aircraft landed on a small desert airstrip in Morocco.

One by one, the students stepped down from the plane.

The heat struck instantly.

The wind carried dry sand across the endless dunes stretching toward the horizon. The Sahara Desert looked exactly like the pictures—vast, silent, and unforgiving.

Five vehicles waited nearby to transport them to the camp location.

Within an hour, the students reached their destination.

And immediately something felt wrong.

There was no camp.

No cabins.

No tents.

No buildings.

Just sand.

Twenty-five students stood there, staring across the empty desert.

A temporary metal stand with a microphone had been set up, along with a few wooden supply crates.

That was all.

Freya looked around in confusion.

"Wait… where are the tents?"

Rakhi squinted into the distance.

"I don't see anything."

Endrix frowned.

"Maybe they're behind those dunes."

Cin shook his head.

"There's nothing there."

Nearby, another group of students from a different university were also scanning the area.

Kavin finally spoke.

"…This can't be the camp."

MJ raised an eyebrow.

"It better not be."

Thyme removed his sunglasses slowly.

"Let's hear what they say first."

A tall man wearing a desert survival uniform stepped up to the microphone.

"Welcome to the International Survival Exchange Camp."

Some students clapped lightly.

Others just waited.

The man continued.

"For the next 15 days, you will stay here in the Sahara Desert."

Students exchanged curious looks.

Then he added the next sentence.

"You will build your own shelters, start your own fires, and survive using the supplies you brought with you."

Silence.

Then the reactions exploded.

---

Shock and Anger

"What?!"

"That's insane!"

"We have to build our own tents?!"

Jayjay stepped forward slightly.

"You never told us that."

Care crossed her arms.

"This was supposed to be an educational camp."

The coordinator nodded calmly.

"It is."

Aries scoffed.

"This looks like a survival trial."

Another student muttered,

"We didn't sign up for this."

The coordinator continued calmly.

"Survival is one of the most important educational experiences."

Cole stared at the empty desert.

"You're saying there are no shelters provided at all?"

"Correct."

Lyra looked worried.

"Then where are we supposed to sleep tonight?"

The coordinator simply pointed at the desert.

"You will build your own shelters."

---

Worried Students

Mia looked genuinely anxious.

"We weren't told to bring survival gear."

Matthew rubbed his forehead.

"Yeah… I thought this was a cultural exchange trip."

Allison looked at the supplies around them.

"This is ridiculous."

Ash kicked the sand lightly.

"Great."

Alex muttered,

"So it's basically fifteen days of surviving in a desert."

Gorya looked around thoughtfully.

"Temperature drops a lot at night in deserts."

Ren nodded.

"That could be dangerous without shelter."

Freya looked horrified.

"You mean it gets cold too?!"

Endrix sighed.

"Of course it does."

---

Checking Supplies

Students slowly began opening their backpacks.

Endrix proudly opened his.

"I brought survival gear."

Aries leaned over.

"You brought noodles."

Endrix glared.

"Food is important."

Percy chuckled.

"At least he tried."

Nearby, another group checked their supplies.

Kavin opened a bag.

"We brought a portable tent."

MJ looked impressed.

"Nice."

Gorya smiled.

"That will save time."

Another voice from nearby spoke.

"Not everyone came that prepared."

Everyone turned slightly.

Ace stood there calmly, observing the area.

Race smirked slightly.

"Most people didn't know what they were walking into."

Zein added quietly,

"Clearly."

Jayjay overheard them.

"So you expected this?"

Ace shrugged.

"Something like it."

Care watched the conversation silently.

Cole glanced toward her briefly but said nothing.

---

Camp Management Explanation

The coordinator raised his hand again.

"Listen carefully."

The students quieted slightly.

"You will organize yourselves."

"You may build shelters individually or in groups."

"You must start your own fires for warmth and cooking."

"There are water stations, but everything else depends on your preparation and teamwork."

Freya whispered loudly,

"This is crazy."

Rakhi nodded.

"We thought this was just camping."

Ren said calmly,

"It is camping."

MJ smirked.

"Extreme camping."

---

First Real Interaction

Students slowly began spreading across the sand, examining the terrain.

Some looked overwhelmed.

Others already seemed to be planning.

Ash crouched down and touched the sand.

"This sand is compact enough if we dig slightly."

Alex looked at him.

"You're thinking wind barriers."

Ash nodded.

"Exactly."

Cin overheard.

"Not a bad idea."

Ash glanced up.

"You know about desert shelters?"

Cin shrugged.

"Basic survival training."

Percy stretched his arms.

"Well we better start before sunset."

Kavin looked toward the sky.

"Good point."

Thyme spoke calmly.

"Night temperatures here can drop fast."

Lyra sighed.

"Great. Hot days and freezing nights."

Matthew muttered,

"This trip just keeps getting better."

Mia looked at the sun slowly lowering toward the dunes.

"We should probably start building something."

Care finally spoke after watching everything.

"Yes."

Everyone nearby instinctively looked toward her.

She pointed toward the sand dunes.

"The wind direction comes from that side."

Cole immediately understood.

"So shelters should face the opposite direction."

Care nodded slightly.

"Exactly."

Ren watched that exchange carefully.

Interesting.

Jayjay crossed her arms.

"Well…"

She looked at the empty desert around them.

"…looks like we're really doing this."

The desert wind moved across the sand.

Twenty-five students.

Four universities.

No shelters.

No comfort.

And fifteen days ahead of them.

The survival camp had officially begun.
