Flynn Lynch said nothing. Sullenly, he pulled the IOU from his clothes, shoved it into Hanson's hand, and turned to leave without even a word of greeting. "Go on back," he said. "Stay out of my business..."
Hanson, completely bewildered, chased after him. "Hey! Where are you going?" he called out.
Flynn Lynch ignored him, so Hanson kept chasing.
After they had been running for an hour, Flynn Lynch ducked into the slums of Nancaster.
It was a sprawling area of single-story homes. Some were marked for demolition, with the large character for "Demolish" painted on their walls. A few elderly people still lived here and there, but by and large, nine out of every ten houses stood empty. The entire district was practically a ghost town.
Without a word, Flynn Lynch slipped into a dilapidated, condemned house—a building so broken-down that half of its eaves were missing.
