"You… you went back on your word…" Stella Lockwood was furious. She turned and ran. A quick glance around revealed a row of double-decker parking lifts to the north of the underground garage. Each spot had an upper and lower level, with a vertical lift in between.
She sprinted, leaped, and grabbed onto a steel bar of the upper platform. With a light swing, her body arced through the air, and she landed perfectly on top, escaping the immediate danger.
Sitting on top, she watched the car screech to a halt. Cold sweat beaded on her fair forehead as she silently breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness her skills were still sharp—the things she remembered learning had just saved her life.
Hathaway hadn't expected her to pull a move like that and was deeply surprised.
He had planned to finish her off before leaving, but a command came through the receiver in his ear from his boss: "Get the item and come back immediately. Someone else will take care of this little brat."
