The old woman cut right to the heart of the matter.
Rhea Vaughn's eyes lit up. "So, you're saying you don't actually plan on taking her back? You're just using her?"
"What do you mean, 'using' her? How can you say such a thing?" the old woman snapped, deeply displeased. "This is what she owes our Vaughn family. If it weren't for her father, your father would be fine, not in a vegetative state. And if your father were fine, the Vaughns wouldn't be struggling like we are today."
That, Rhea could get behind. "Right, right, Stella Lockwood owes our family. Grandma, I want to know, who are you planning to marry her off to?"
"Mr. Parrish's eldest son."
"You mean that cripple?" Rhea's eyes widened, and she was so excited she nearly burst out laughing.
"Don't be ridiculous. Frank Parrish's legs are just temporarily unable to walk," the old woman chided, glaring at her unfiltered grandchild.
