The moment the network disconnected, every internet-dependent device on the cruise ship instantly failed. Credit cards could no longer be swiped at the shopping center, chips couldn't be cashed out at the casino, and the production crew's live broadcast came to an abrupt halt. Many guests were working remotely on the ship; their video conferences suddenly went black, cutting off all contact with the outside world.
The atrium's entertainment district fell into mild chaos, and the outdoor decks swarmed with people. Uniformed executives hurried about, ordering the crew to assemble for an emergency. Some staff members were dispatched to pacify the guests, while others went to inspect the ship's equipment.
It was obvious that something major had happened. A sense of panic rippled through the guests as an ominous feeling settled over them. They were in the middle of the damn ocean! If a disaster struck, there would be nowhere to run!
