The siblings Li Zhaodi and Li Rui had lost their parents at a young age and grew up relying solely on each other.
Li Zhaodi later married Director Duan. He was a doctor at the county hospital, and his parents were retired officials with substantial pensions.
Because of this, Director Duan had always been the one to pay for Li Rui's university education. After Li Rui graduated, Director Duan even pulled some strings to get his brother-in-law a decent job at a friend's company.
Director Duan's family was well-off.
