Before he could even figure out a solution, a Black Robe raised a sharp blade and thrust it at him. Jean Reginald moved, dodging at a bizarre and tricky angle. He smoothly drew the dagger from his waist and plunged it cleanly into the Black Robe's heart.
Unfortunately, while he could handle the one in front, he couldn't attend to his back. This gave the other Black Robes an opportunity to strike. A sharp blade pierced his right shoulder. Jean Reginald sent the Black Robe flying with a palm strike, yanked the blade from his shoulder, and scrambled back several steps.
As Jean Reginald retreated, the Black Robes pursued him relentlessly, pressing him back. Perhaps affected by the poison on the blade, his footing suddenly became unsteady. Jean Reginald stumbled and fell backward. Behind him was the highest cliff in Graywood Forest, its depth unfathomable.
