The night wind was strong.
It billowed Seraphina Quinn's skirt and whipped her thick, long hair across her face.
She raised a hand to tuck the stray strands behind her ear, and as she did, her eyes met Damian Fairchild's.
An emotion Damian Fairchild couldn't decipher was hidden in their depths.
She stared at Damian Fairchild without saying a word. After a long moment, she finally forced herself to speak. "That's right. Just as your father said. I was unfaithful. I cheated on you with your good friend and betrayed you."
In an instant, the rims of Damian Fairchild's eyes turned red.
Even though he was backlit, Seraphina Quinn could see the redness in his eyes with perfect clarity.
Her gaze remained locked on his eyes.
"It's not really betrayal, though. After all, I dumped you five years ago. I stopped loving you then, so there's no way I'd still love you now. Aside from giving you a son, we don't owe each other a thing."
