Finding things was proving to be a genuinely difficult task for Amelia Lockhart.
After Ethan Quinn found four cards in a row, Amelia Lockhart had no choice but to accept this fact.
She was clearly walking a step ahead of Ethan, yet she couldn't seem to find anything at all.
Half an hour passed. Amelia Lockhart counted the cards in her pocket; she'd collected twelve, bringing their total to twenty-two. They were exactly one-third of the way to the goal of sixty-six.
"Forget how hard the cards are to find, why are there so many ones, twos, and threes?" Although there was still plenty of time left in the afternoon, Amelia Lockhart couldn't help but complain. "I haven't even seen a single four, let alone a gold card."
"Tell me about it! I've only found one 'four.' My other dozen or so cards are all ones and twos!" Iris Yates, who had just run into Amelia, chimed in with her own complaint.
