Outside the tent, the wind howled.
Inside the tent, a candle flame danced merrily.
Three people sat facing each other, but none of them looked at ease.
"I think it was the Celestial Emperor," Silas Linden said gravely. "Right now, he's the only one who could have done it. But since he took her so quietly, the chances of him returning Amelia are almost zero."
Getting the Celestial Emperor to hand her over would be incredibly difficult, because they had no concrete evidence.
To rashly suspect the Celestial Emperor and demand he return someone was a capital offense.
"The Celestial Emperor doesn't wish to see a world plunged into suffering and devastation," Ethan Quinn said, his voice raw. "If sacrificing one person could salvage the current situation, I believe he would make that choice. After all, it wouldn't be the first time."
One couldn't call the Celestial Emperor heartless, just that when a choice had to be made, he would always be willing to make a sacrifice.
