In the hospital room, Phoebe Faulkner's eyes lit up when Jace Lennox suddenly offered her an extraordinary favor—granting her a single request.
"I want..." She paused mischievously, as if to deliberately keep Jace in suspense, before reaching out and pressing her fingers to his lips. "I want you..."
"Want me?" Jace raised an eyebrow, his tone laced with teasing.
Phoebe's face immediately flushed red. "That's not what I mean!" she explained hastily. "I haven't finished my sentence yet."
Seeing Phoebe, her face beet-red from his teasing and scrambling to explain, Jace single-handedly pulled her onto the bed, turned, and pinned her beneath him. "So what *did* you mean?"
"You... You pervert!" Phoebe said indignantly. "Let me go! Your back is still injured!"
"Well then, tell me. What did you mean? If you weren't thinking it, how did you know that's what I meant?" Jace was getting a kick out of this; he found that teasing the normally meek Phoebe was particularly amusing.
