"You should get more rest if you're not feeling well," Phoebe Faulkner said, her tone considerate and poised. "Miss Langdon, Jace and I understand your feelings, so you don't have to worry. I'm here for him. Let me take you home so you can get some rest."
'What's the big deal?'
'I can play pretend too. Isn't this just a competition to see who's kinder and more generous?'
'There's nothing wrong with me offering to take her home to rest since she's not feeling well.'
"Jace..." Rona Langdon looked toward Jace Lennox. She hadn't expected Phoebe Faulkner to be on a first-name basis with him already, or that Jace wouldn't even object to it.
"Since you're not feeling well, you should go home and rest," Jace Lennox finally spoke, but he only echoed Phoebe's words. It sounded like he was concerned for her, but it was obvious he was siding with Phoebe.
Rona Langdon sat there, feeling more humiliated than ever before.
