'She won't tell me.'
'Why?'
'Is it because she's my mother, and I haven't earned her trust? Or did my mother promise her something?'
Preston Keaton couldn't suppress his unease. He lowered his gaze, concealing the sharp, hostile glint in his eyes. He pulled her into his arms with practiced calm and asked gently, "Did she yell at you? Don't be upset. I've told you before—in the entire Keaton family, you only need to care about me."
Evelyn Grant murmured, "Your mother didn't yell at me."
"Yes, she's very conscious of her public image and afraid of paparazzi, so she probably wouldn't do that. Then what did she say? That we're not a good match?"
"...No."
"Did she tell you that marrying into a wealthy family means you'll have to learn a lot, give up your freedom and interests, and ask if you were capable of that?"
