Chapter 7 - 7

The door opened without resistance.

The moment I stepped through, the air changed.

Heavier.

Denser.

Like the space itself had weight.

---

The cavern was larger than the others.

Not wider—deeper.

The ceiling disappeared into darkness. The walls curved inward slightly, as if the space had been carved out instead of formed.

There was no moss here.

No light except what came from the doorway behind me.

And something else.

Something low.

Constant.

---

A sound.

---

Breathing.

---

Not fast like the Hounds.

Not light like the Bats.

---

Slow.

Deep.

---

Alive.

---

I stepped forward.

Carefully.

Every movement controlled.

Every step deliberate.

---

The sound shifted.

---

It knew I was there.

---

Something moved in the dark.

---

At first it didn't look like anything.

Just shadow.

Then the shadow moved against the direction of the darkness.

And I understood scale.

---

It was big.

---

Not just larger than the Crawlers.

Larger than anything I had fought so far.

---

It stepped into the faint light.

---

PALE QUEEN

---

The name appeared.

No explanation.

No guidance.

---

Its body was elongated, supported by multiple segmented limbs that spread outward in a wide, unnatural radius. The surface of it was pale—almost white—but not clean. It looked like something that had never seen light and didn't understand it.

Its head—

if that was the right word—

tilted slightly.

And I felt it.

---

Attention.

---

It wasn't reacting.

It was observing.

---

HP: 46 / 490

---

I exhaled slowly.

"Of course," I muttered.

---

The Queen moved.

---

Not fast.

---

But everything about it said that speed wasn't the point.

---

The ground shifted under its weight.

Not cracked.

Shifted.

---

I moved first.

Closed distance.

Not giving it time to dictate the pace.

---

Mistake.

---

One of its limbs struck.

Faster than the rest of it.

---

I barely saw it.

---

Impact.

---

The world snapped sideways.

---

I hit the ground hard.

---

HP: 21 / 490

---

Too much.

---

Too fast.

---

I rolled immediately.

Another strike hit where I'd been.

The stone didn't crack.

It dented.

---

"Not like the others," I breathed.

---

I pushed up.

Forced movement.

Even as my vision narrowed.

---

Think.

---

Not the body.

Not the size.

---

Find something.

Anything.

---

The Queen adjusted.

Limbs spreading wider.

Closing space.

---

Trapping.

---

I moved toward it instead.

---

Inside the radius.

---

Less force there.

Less reach.

---

The quill drove forward—

---

It didn't pierce.

---

The surface resisted.

Not like armor.

Like density.

---

Wrong target.

---

A limb came down.

---

I twisted.

Barely.

---

Pain exploded through my side.

---

HP: 9 / 490

---

Too low.

---

One more hit—

---

Done.

---

I forced myself forward again.

Closer.

Closer.

---

The underside.

---

Less protected.

---

I dropped low.

Slid under its frame.

---

The world narrowed.

---

Just movement.

Just timing.

---

I drove the quill upward.

---

This time—

---

It went in.

---

Not deep.

But enough.

---

The Queen reacted.

Not violently.

Not immediately.

---

But it reacted.

---

The limb patterns changed.

Faster.

Less controlled.

---

Good.

---

I pulled back.

Moved.

Repeated.

---

Every strike shallow.

Every opening small.

---

HP: 5 / 490

---

Still alive.

---

Still moving.

---

That was enough.

---

Another strike.

Deeper.

---

The Queen shifted.

Unstable.

---

I didn't stop.

---

Didn't think.

---

Just moved.

---

One more.

---

Then—

---

Stillness.

---

The body froze.

Then collapsed.

---

Silence.

---

REAL silence.

---

I stood there.

Didn't move.

Didn't breathe properly.

---

Waiting.

---

The notification came.

---

PALE QUEEN DEFEATED

EXP GAINED: +???

LEVEL UP — LEVEL 3

---

I didn't care.

---

My legs gave out.

---

I hit the ground.

---

HP: 1 / 490

---

One.

---

I laughed.

---

Short.

Broken.

---

"Of course," I whispered.

---

The world shifted.

---

Light.

---

White.

---

Everything disappeared.

---

I was sitting.

---

No pain.

---

No injuries.

---

HP: 530 / 530

---

I looked at my hands.

Clean.

Unmarked.

---

"That's new," I muttered.

---

Then the system spoke.

---

Not text.

---

Sound.

---

Meaning.

---

You should not exist.

---

I didn't respond.

---

Didn't know how.

---

Silence returned.

---

Then—

---

A notification.

---

TOWER ADMINISTRATIVE BOARD — EMERGENCY SESSION

SUBJECT: ANOMALY #0001

STATUS: IN PROGRESS

---

Voices.

---

Not around me.

Not in front.

---

Everywhere.

---

Overlapping.

---

"…protocol violation—"

"…scan errors—"

"…World 6249 output—"

---

They weren't talking to me.

---

They couldn't see me.

---

I was just—

there.

---

"…ability formed on death—"

"…that's not possible—"

"…it happened once—"

---

Silence.

---

A new voice.

---

Old.

---

"We terminated it."

---

The room—whatever this was—stilled.

---

"And we were wrong."

---

The voices rose again.

Louder.

Sharper.

---

"…too dangerous—"

"…uncontrolled growth—"

"…threat to the Tower—"

---

"Then watch it," the old voice said.

Calm.

Certain.

---

"Or terminate it," another replied.

---

A pause.

---

"Vote," the old voice said.

---

Notifications filled my vision.

---

TERMINATE

RETAIN

TERMINATE

TERMINATE

RETAIN

---

More.

---

Faster.

---

TERMINATE leading.

---

By a lot.

---

I watched.

Didn't react.

Didn't think.

---

Just—

observed.

---

Then—

---

ADMINISTRATOR VEL — FLOOR 1

OVERRIDE INITIATED

---

Everything stopped.

---

"I have seen this once before," the old voice said.

---

"And I will not make the same mistake twice."

---

FINAL DECISION: RETAIN

---

The noise exploded.

---

Arguments.

Objections.

---

Ignored.

---

"This matter is closed."

---

Silence.

---

I exhaled slowly.

---

Curiosity.

---

That's what kept me alive.

---

Not luck.

Not mercy.

---

Interest.

---

A door appeared.

---

Same as before.

---

I stood.

---

Walked toward it.

---

Didn't hesitate.

---

Didn't look back.

---

I pushed it open.

---

And stepped forward.

---

Floor 2 began.
