Luo He stepped forward without hesitation, leaving Vera and Xu Mun behind at a distance. The trench settlement stretched around them like a scar carved into the desert rough walls of packed sand, scattered torches burning with uneven flames, and figures watching from every shadow.
Vera crossed her arms, her sharp eyes fixed on Luo He. "He's walking into a den of wolves," she muttered. Xu Mun gave a faint smile. "No," he said quietly. "They only look like wolves. He's the one they should fear."
At the center, beneath a torn canopy, the sorceress sat unmoving. Luo He approached her calmly. "I'm here to form an alliance," he said. Silence. Then her voice came low, smooth, controlled.
"People don't come here for alliances," she said. "They come for power or they come to die." Luo He didn't react. "I came for both," he replied lightly.
That caught her interest. A faint shift beneath the hood. "Bold," she murmured. The negotiation began without ceremony. No guards stepping in. No dramatic gestures. Just words.
Sharp. Precise. Testing. She questioned him about his intentions, his reach, his enemies.
He answered only what was needed never more, never less. At one point, she asked quietly, "If I give you my army what do I gain?" Luo He's lips curved slightly.
"Freedom to expand," he said. "Protection from larger powers. And a place in something greater than this wasteland." Silence again. She leaned forward slightly.
"And how do I know you won't betray me?" Luo He didn't even pause. "Because I don't need to." That answer lingered. For the first time she laughed softly. Not mockingly. Genuinely.
"Interesting." The deal was nearly done.
Then Luo He asked the final question.
"How do you want to seal it?" There were many ways.
Kings shared wine in royal gatherings.
Generals made public vows. Merchants sealed agreements with contracts.
He expected something along those lines. Instead she said calmly, "Give me a child."
For a brief moment even Luo He paused.
Then he laughed. "That's a new one."
But she didn't laugh with him. Slowly
She reached up slowly and pulled back her hood. The fabric slipped away like a curtain being drawn, and the torchlight immediately found her face warm, flickering light tracing every detail with quiet reverence.
Black hair spilled forward, smooth and weightless, cascading over her shoulders in soft waves that caught the glow in subtle glints. It framed her face naturally, not styled for beauty yet impossible to ignore. Her eyes a deep, striking red. Not dull. Not chaotic. But clear. Focused. Alive.
They held a sharpness that didn't come from anger, nor from madness but from control. The kind of control forged through surviving a world that offered no mercy.
She wore a blue knee-length skirt, the fabric moving lightly with the faint desert breeze that slipped even into this space. It contrasted against the fitted red top she wore close to her form, deliberate, almost minimal. The black sleeves along her arms, separate from the top itself, gave her silhouette a distinct edge something between elegance and quiet danger.
"So this is you," he said quietly.
And the faintest hint of a smile touched her lips. Not soft. Not inviting. But knowing she was undeniayblely striking
Luo He's laughter faded into a faint smile.
"So this is the real you." She stepped closer. "Now you understand," she said quietly. There was no desperation in her tone. No seduction in the obvious sense.
Only certainty.
From a distance, Vera narrowed her eyes. "What is she doing" Xu Mun exhaled slowly. "She's securing her future." Vera frowned. "With him self?"
Xu Mun nodded slightly. "If she binds herself to him she ties her fate to something far greater than this desert."
He paused. "And she knows it."
Back at the center, the tension had shifted. Not aggressive. Not hostile.
Something else. She turned slightly.
"Come," she said simply and walked away. Luo He stood still for a moment.
Then followed. Not forced. Not fully resisting. Just… accepting.
Her chamber was hidden deeper within the trenches. Unlike the outside, it was surprisingly structured. Clean, in its own way. Weapons arranged neatly. Maps pinned to the walls. A low table with scattered scrolls. This was not a reckless woman. This was someone who understood control.
She turned to face him. For a moment. Neither spoke. Then she stepped closer. Close enough that the space between them disappeared. "You're different," she said quietly. "So are you," Luo He replied.
A faint smile. And then the night unfolded.
Outside, the desert wind picked up.
The torches flickered violently. Time passed. Slowly. Then quickly.
Vera remained where she was, her expression unreadable. Xu Mun stood beside her, calm as ever. "Did he accepted it," Vera said after a while. Xu Mun gave a small nod. "Of course he did." "Why?" asked Vera. "Because he understands value," Xu Mun replied. "And she is valuable."
Vera's gaze hardened slightly. "This is more than strategy." Xu Mun didn't deny it. "No," he said quietly. "But for someone like him even that becomes strategy."
Inside, the hours passed unnoticed.
The tension between them didn't fade.
It intensified. Layered. Complex.
Neither one giving ground easily.
Neither one truly in control. Until
Eventually. Silence.
By the time dawn began to break over the desert, the storm had passed.
The sky turned pale gold. And the trench settlement slowly came back to life.
She stepped out first. Calm. Composed.
But there was a subtle difference in her expression. Satisfied. Certain.
Vera noticed immediately. Xu Mun did too. "It's done," Xu Mun murmured.
A few moments later Luo He stepped out. His movements were slower.
Not weak. Just briefly affected. The fatigue of the past days. The weight of everything. But within moments it was gone. His posture straightened. His gaze sharpened. And he returned to himself.
Calm. Controlled. Untouchable.
She had black hair neatly arranged into a bun red eyes wore a hint of satisfaction She took Luo He to her personal chamber last night. Luo He mildly resisted but didn't fully oppose it as unlike in his imagination before the soscerus was supper cute. They engaged in some strong nightly activities. Vera and Xu Mun were shocked out side as they knew he has taken a hard pill to swallow.
She kept on riding him through three storm until she finally met her's. And that was just the first round. The two kept it up all night. Jin Mulan usual goses for one to two rounds and then they go to talking followed by sleep
He glanced at her. "That was… different." with a faint smirk. She gave him a sideways look. "I don't see you complaining." she chuckled lightly. "No." A brief pause. "Not at all." He said.
With that the deal was sealed. She will stand with him at full strength. Whenever he called. But she added one more condition. "You'll need more than me," she said. He looked at her. "The others won't follow just because I do." Luo He nodded slightly. "I expected that."
She gestured toward the deeper trenches. "Convince them. The rebel leaders." Then her army Sixty thousand strong would stand with him.
They walked together through the settlement. Vera and Xu Mun followed behind. The atmosphere shifted again.
This time more attention. More tension.
More curiosity. They reached a larger open area where several figures waited.
Men and women. Different ages. Different backgrounds.
All hardened. All sharp. Leaders. Or at least people who believed they were. Luo He looked at them. Briefly. Analyzing. Xu Mun leaned slightly toward Vera. "These ones," he said quietly, "are not like her." Vera nodded. "I can see that." "They're weaker," Xu Mun continued. "But they hold influence."
One of them stepped forward. "You're the outsider?" he asked. Luo He didn't answer immediately. He let the silence stretch. Just long enough. Then "No." Simple. Direct. Another spoke. "And you think you can command us?" Luo He's gaze moved across them slowly. "I don't need to command you," he said. "I just need you to see the outcome." A few of them frowned. "What outcome?" one asked.
Luo He stepped forward slightly. "The one where you either rise with me or get left behind." The words landed sharply.
No arrogance. Just certainty. He continued. "You've survived this long because no one considered you worth dealing with. And you'll were protected but her " A pause. "But that's changing."
Their expressions hardened. "You're no longer ignored, nor will be protected once I leave" he said. "You're vulnerable." Silence. "You can remain here," Luo He continued calmly, "fighting over scraps.Or you can stand behind something bigger." He gestured slightly.
"Power that actually changes things."
One of the leaders scoffed. "And you're that power?" Luo He met his gaze.
"What do you think?" That made them pause.
Because he didn't sound like he was trying to convince them. He sounded like he was stating a fact. Behind him, Xu Mun smiled faintly. "This is where it begins." Vera didn't respond.
But her eyes didn't leave Luo He. Because once again without raising his voice. Without forcing anything he was already pulling them in. One word at a time.
