It all happened so fast that no one else saw what was going on outside.
It wasn't until they heard the heavy door slam shut and saw the lingering fear on Hector Grant's face that they slowly began to process what had happened.
"Captain Grant, what's wrong? Why did you suddenly slam the door shut?"
"Yeah! What happened?"
"What's out there?"
Hector Grant's expression was grim. He didn't immediately answer their questions.
It wasn't that he didn't want to, but that he had no idea what had just happened outside either.
He hadn't even gotten a clear look at what had just attacked him.
If his reflexes hadn't been fast enough, he might already be dead.
It wasn't that Hector Grant was afraid of dying.
'Everyone has to die sometime.'
'Especially in the apocalypse—death is even more commonplace.'
But he refused to die without even knowing what killed him.
If he was going to die, he at least wanted to know what had taken his life.
