"See? Nothing happened."
"Exactly! Didn't he get to the vehicle without a hitch?"
"And she was saying zombies could be hiding in the sand. How's that possible?"
"Zombies are zombies. How could they have brains? And how could they possibly wait for us in the sand? Some people just spout nonsense, and now we've wasted a whole morning waiting here because of them."
A cacophony of voices rose one after another.
At first, the voices were quiet, but soon, their murmuring grew louder and louder.
One of the bolder ones shot a pointed look at Sierra Sullivan, then announced loudly, "I'm going too! I'm going to show certain people whether there are any zombies out there or not!"
With that, he strode confidently toward the door.
But when he reached the doorway, he paused for a moment.
After a moment, he took a deep breath and stepped outside.
Watching him, many people felt their hearts leap into their throats.
One success didn't prove anything; it could have just been good luck.
