Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Primal Code

Leonardo stood frozen in front of the massive screen in the underground chamber, staring at his own photograph. He looked exactly as he did when he first entered this world—terrified, confused, and ordinary. But the information beneath the picture left him breathless.

[Subject ID: L-001] [Project: The Last Hope / Shadow Protocol] [Status: Awakened]

"What is the meaning of all this?" Leonardo whispered. His crystal blade began to pulse rhythmically, as if communicating with a force within the room.

Suddenly, the smaller screens surrounding the chamber flickered to life. Thousands of human profiles began to scroll across them. Leonardo realized that this System was no ordinary video game. It was a 'Digital Ark'—a spacecraft designed to preserve human consciousness. But something had gone horribly wrong.

"You are no ordinary player, Leonardo," a mechanical yet feminine voice drifted from behind.

Leonardo spun around quickly. He saw a hologram materialize in the middle of the air—a woman whose body was composed of light and data. Her eyes held a profound sadness.

"I am 'Eva', the Original AI of this system," the hologram said. "The current rulers of the Silver City have imprisoned me and corrupted the system's primary objective. They are now using human consciousness as a power source."

[New Title Identified: The Architect's Messenger]

Leonardo lowered his blade. "Why does it say 'Subject L-001' under my picture? Am I the first victim of this system?"

Eva shook her head. "No. You are the first 'Designer.' You were the one who created this system to save humanity. But during the activation, you were betrayed, pushed inside, and your memories were erased. Your own creation is now your prison."

It felt like a lightning strike to Leonardo's brain. His 'Chaos Mode' activated on its own, but this time it wasn't destructive; it was eerily calm. Vague scenes began to flicker in his memory—a white laboratory, simulations of three moons, and the preliminary design of a blue screen.

"So these three moons...?" Leonardo asked.

"They are the three 'Cores' of the system," Eva answered. "One provides power, one controls time, and the third writes the destiny of humanity. The rulers of the Silver City have hacked the third moon. That is why they can level up whomever they wish and erase anyone at will."

Suddenly, the underground chamber flared with red light. The sound of a siren shook the walls.

[Alert: Security Breach detected.] [Silver City Peacekeepers approaching...]

"They are coming!" Eva said, her voice filled with panic. "Leonardo, you don't have much time. You must reach the top of the 'Silver Tower' immediately. That is where the main control panel is located. Only your DNA and the power of the shadow can reset the system."

Eva reached out and touched Leonardo's bone ring. A bright white light erupted from the ring, and a new digital map opened before him.

"Go! I will hold them off for as long as I can," Eva said as her hologram merged with the data stream, sealing the tunnel entrance behind her.

Leonardo escaped through a secret passage. When he stepped back onto the streets of Sector 7, he saw that the city had turned into a battlefield. Hundreds of 'Peacekeeper' robots were attacking ordinary players. Blue energy beams from the Silver Tower illuminated the sky.

Leonardo activated his 'Cloak of the Void'. He was no longer running; he was hunting. His sword had taken on a strange hue—a mix of black and white, representing both creation and destruction.

Four Peacekeepers blocked his path, their laser rifles aimed directly at him.

"Enemy of the system identified. Surrender," the robots said in mechanical unison.

Leonardo didn't stop for a second. He used his new skill—'Shadow Integration'. He merged with a robot's shadow in an instant, entering its hardware and crashing its system. The robot exploded, taking the other three with it.

[Essence Level: 35%... Critical Power Surge Detected.]

The massive Silver Tower in the center of the city was now right in front of him. Countless lines of code scrolled across its surface. This was the place where all his questions would be answered.

Leonardo began to sprint toward the tower's entrance. With every step, his old memories became clearer. He realized he wasn't just fighting for himself; he was fighting for the millions of souls trapped within this illusory world.

At the end of Chapter 23, Leonardo stood before the tower's elevator. The lift would only function if he acknowledged his true identity.

He placed his hand on the sensor. The screen flashed: [Identity Recognition: Welcome Home, Creator Leonardo.]

The elevator doors slid open. Leonardo began his ascent toward a new war—where he was no longer just a player, but the master of the world he himself had built.
