Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Falling into a Trap

Jane Alden had always been afraid of him, and she immediately stood up stiffly. "Felix..."

Josie Quinn, however, remained lazily lounging and pointed to the pile of supplies. "Hey, a gift from your boss here. All thanks to you."

Felix's gaze darkened. "You saw Marco Cross?"

"Mhm. Gave me a gift the moment we met. A real 'warm' welcome."

Felix tore his eyes away from the supplies, his brow furrowed as he warned her, "If you don't want to lose your freedom, stay away from him."

'Of course I'm not getting close to Marco Cross again,' she thought. 'My powers have partially recovered. I'll definitely be out of here in three days, tops.'

So she agreed with a beaming smile. "Alright! I'm your woman, so of course I'll stay far away from him."

Felix shot her a cold glance but said nothing more. He strode over to Rhona Cameron, sat down beside her, and pulled a box of blood pressure medication from his pocket, holding it out.

Rhona Cameron didn't reach for it, her face etched with worry. "Wilder, I don't need this. Don't go taking risks anymore. There are so many monsters out there. What if something happens to you? These old bones have lived long enough; it'd be no great loss if I were gone."

'If I didn't have to worry about my granddaughter, I'd end things myself rather than be a burden to Felix.'

Seeing her refusal, Felix placed the medicine on the table. "I just happened to find it. I wasn't specifically looking for it."

Josie's gaze drifted from the box of medicine to Felix's face.

'This man seems so cold and hard on the surface, but his heart is the complete opposite.'

'Zombies are running rampant outside, and even a superpower user can be killed by a moment of carelessness, yet he's willing to risk his life to find medicine for an old woman he's not even related to...'

'Even if he wasn't looking for it on purpose, a box of medicine is worth far more than food in this day and age.'

'And he just handed it over like it was nothing.'

"Wilder, you really don't have to look after us. You should go do whatever you want. Don't let us hold you back."

"It's the apocalypse. I don't have anything I need to do." 'The only thing to do is figure out how to survive for as long as possible.'

"Grandma, you and Wilder can talk. I'm going to do the laundry."

Jane Alden, seeing they had things to discuss, got up, picked up the laundry basket, and headed for the door.

As an outsider, Josie Quinn couldn't very well stay either, so she followed Jane Alden to go do laundry.

Because Josie was so stunningly beautiful, no matter where she went in the shelter, countless pairs of eyes would follow her.

Jane Alden subtly shifted to the side, trying to shield Josie with her own slender frame.

Josie noticed the gesture but didn't say anything.

"Cece, don't be fooled by how cold Felix seems. He's actually really good to people, much more reliable than most men."

Josie took out a piece of clothing to wash and deliberately teased her, "Is that so?"

"It's true! After the apocalypse started, I saw how men treat women like objects, just toys to be played with. Felix is so powerful, and plenty of women have thrown themselves at him, but he hasn't accepted a single one."

At this, Jane Alden looked at her and smiled sweetly. "The fact that Felix kept you here means he must really like you. He'll be good to you."

Josie found this amusing and reached out to poke her on the forehead. "You're just a kid. Don't be so obsessed with romance."

'My thing with Felix isn't even real,' she thought. 'And even if it was, I wouldn't be so quick to trust any man again.'

The two of them chatted on and off as they finished the rest of the laundry.

"Cece, you head back first. I'll go deliver these clean clothes and get it over with."

"Okay, I'll head back then."

Josie yawned, feeling a little sleepy.

After parting ways with Jane Alden, she walked into a corridor.

She hadn't taken more than a few steps when she heard voices.

She lightened her steps, crept to the corner, and peeked around it.

"Alright, that's enough!"

As Joanna Cross's excited voice rang out, Josie saw Felix Fields standing opposite her. The usual spirit was gone from his sharp, cold features. He turned without a word and walked into a room.

The man standing beside Joanna had beads of cold sweat on his forehead, and his breathing was unsteady.

"Joanna, Wilder's power is too strong. My ability probably won't last much longer."

"Alright, I get it. You can go."

Joanna eagerly followed Felix into the room.

Seeing this, Josie immediately transformed into a rock and rolled along the base of the wall.

Just as the door was about to close, she hopped straight into the room, making a fairly loud noise.

'What was that sound?'

Joanna glanced back but saw nothing out of the ordinary, so she quickly shut the door.

Felix sat motionless on the edge of the bed like a puppet on strings.

Josie could of course see that something was very wrong with Felix. She struggled to roll herself closer to him.

After closing the door, Joanna walked over to Felix, unable to wait to touch him.

Jack Jennings had hypnotized him. All she had to do was touch him, and it would trigger his lust.

Joanna stared at his handsome, stern face and his body, which radiated raw sex appeal.

She was practically drooling, her hands trembling with anticipation.

"Wilder, how about I take good care of you?"

Her fingers were just about to touch Felix's clothes when a voice came from behind her. "Up to no good, are we?"

"Who's there?"

Joanna jumped, startled, and immediately spun around.

"You? Get the hell out of here, now!" Joanna was burning with rage.

Not only did Josie not leave, she approached with a grin. "Did you forget something? I'm his woman."

"So what? Wilder just has a taste for novelty. Once he gets tired of you, and you fall into my hands..."

Before she could finish, the vicious expression on her face froze.

Josie couldn't be bothered to waste words with her. She pressed a dagger directly against her neck. "Fall into your hands, and then what?"

"You... what are you doing? If you dare to hurt me, you'll never make it out of this shelter alive!"

"I'm the type who responds to persuasion, not coercion. If you're going to threaten me, I might as well kill you first and we'll see what happens."

Josie made a show of pressing the dagger deeper into her neck.

The cold touch made Joanna's whole body go weak. She immediately dropped to her knees. "Let's talk this out! I was just joking with you."

The corner of Josie's mouth quirked up as she chopped the back of her neck with the side of her hand.

Joanna's eyes rolled back in her head, and she slumped to the floor.

Josie patted Felix's shoulder, trying to rouse him. "Felix, wake up!"

Felix, who had been hanging his head, suddenly snapped his head up and seized her wrist!

Caught off guard, Josie looked up and met his dark, smoldering eyes.

They were churning with a thick, heavy lust that was so searing it made her heart leap.

A terrible feeling washed over her. She tried to pull her hand away, but it was held fast, as if welded in place.

"Felix? Are you awa—"

Before the word was out, his searing lips were on hers.

Her breath was stolen away as he pressed her down into the mattress. The sound of tearing fabric was shockingly clear in the silent room.

The rough skin of his palm stroked over hers, sending a shiver through her body.

Josie's mind went blank with a BUZZ, and in that instant, the power within her began to boil.

But she was completely unaware of it. The unfamiliar sensations were lighting fires all over her body, conquering her territory inch by inch.

Her face flushed crimson. When she came to her senses, she raised her hands to push him away, the words muffled from her mouth. "Feh... 'ix... 'ake 'up..."

The man turned a deaf ear, pinning both of her wrists above her head with one hand. His powerful, broad-shouldered body completely enveloped hers.
