Outside the cave, the rain was a torrential downpour.
Josie Quinn and Lucas Lockwood had just stepped inside the cave when the curtain of rain behind them abruptly intensified.
Large raindrops hammered the ground, throwing up countless splashes. In a matter of moments, the entire cave entrance was shrouded in a thick mist, completely obscuring the view outside.
"There's spring water in the cave. I've heated some up, so you should go get cleaned up," a kind-faced old woman said, taking Josie Quinn's hand. "It must have been rough these past few days. Go take a hot bath and get a good night's sleep."
Dim, yellow light from a kerosene lamp flickered within the cave, illuminating every face. Their initial wariness had long since faded, replaced now with expressions full of gratitude.
An imposing-looking old man stepped forward. "This rain won't be stopping anytime soon. Owen Warren's wife, have everyone make room for our benefactors."
