Chapter 5 - A Dangerous Game

POV: Antonio

I really hate it when people can't take a hint.

Standing there, my face covered in blood, a gun in my hand, I wanted just one answer—why did he kill my people?

"You came into my domain and killed my men. Do you even know who I am? I am unforgiving. I tend to be cruel… but for you, I might bend my ways. I'm being too merciful."

He looked at me, blood dripping from his mouth, nose—everywhere—his body trembling.

"I was ordered by Carlos… my family was collateral. I had no choice. I'm really sorry, sir… please forgive me."

I watched him beg.

"So, Carlos, huh… I guess I should forgive you. But what to do… no one betrays me."

With one swift movement, I shot him in the head.

I then instructed James to find his family and compensate them.

He handed me a note. "Good for you. I hope next time I feel the same.

P.S. Needs some improvement."

I couldn't help but laugh. Such a liar.

Then James added, "If you lost something, you know where to find me… that's what she told me to tell you."

I smirked. "So that's how you want to play, Velvet."

"I got it. You do your work," I told him.

I don't remember losing anything though.

I headed back to my penthouse, which I recently bought close to her place.

Let's play this game a little longer, Velvet.

POV: Sofia

I went back home—to my studio apartment. Not big, but comfortable. It felt good.

I slumped onto the bed, ready to rest, but one thing kept bothering me.

How come he didn't even tell me his name?

I shouldn't have told him mine.

All my frustration was taken out on my very new pillow.

Next time he comes, I'll show him who's the boss.

Then I picked up the locket he had left behind.

It was oval-shaped, with a photo of a woman and a child inside.

Who are they?

Is he married?

The kid had the same black hair and brown eyes as him. And the woman… she was beautiful. Long black hair, pale skin, blue eyes.

God… did I sleep with a married man?

That can't happen to me.

Let's not overthink it. He can't be that much of a jerk… can he?

I should sleep.

I have my shift in five hours.

After what felt like hibernation, I finally woke up. I must have been too exhausted—I slept like a baby.

I checked the clock. 7 PM.

My shift starts at 8. I'll be late.

I started working at the pub two years ago. Back then, I had nothing but a bag and a broken phone. I was broke and had nowhere to go.

Then Ryan, a middle-aged man, gave me a job at a pub—which led me to where I am today.

Its name is Smoke and Supper—kind of cringey, but popular.

I made money, friends… life got better.

When I reached the pub, my friend Lucy gave me a knowing smile.

"It has been brought to my notice that yesterday you were being lovey-dovey with a hottie," she said.

I laughed awkwardly. "Don't be mad… I had a one-night stand with him. And now I think he was married."

I blurted it out in one go.

Lucy stared at me, eyes wide. She's been my best friend since the day we met, and I knew that reaction wasn't good.

"Girl, have you lost it? I set you up with so many good people, and you go and have fun with a married man?"

She smacked me.

"He was tempting, I couldn't help it! And I didn't know before. I found a locket he left behind—with a photo of a boy who looked like him and a woman."

"Okay, okay… whatever happened, happened. Don't overthink it," she said.

My shift went by without any incident—which was unusual.

Not a single man flirted today.

That was definitely suspicious.

But I didn't think much of it.
