But it never came. Instead, the violent, deafening rattle of heavy metal echoed through the room. The reinforced chains jerked violently, snapping taut just inches from my face.
I opened my eyes, tears spilling down my cheeks, to find Kael breathing heavily, his claws hovering dangerously close to my skin. He had stopped himself. Even in his blind fury, he hadn't crossed the line.
Suddenly, a blaring red light flooded the cell, and a piercing alarm began to echo through the corridors. The cameras had picked up his aggression.
Within seconds, the doors burst open and a squad of hefty guards rushed in, their electric shock devices crackling with blue currents.
They drove the prods into Kael's back, delivering massive jolts of electricity.
Two of the guards grabbed my arms, forcefully hoisting me up and dragging me toward the exit. I looked back over my shoulder, and my stomach plummeted.
