Chapter 9 - chapter - 9 : Sister has been kidnapped

Kael hovered above the Silverport skyline, the wind whipping through his hair as his Thunder Divine Body fully integrated the new knowledge. Unlike the rigid, static skills of mortal adventurers, Kael's abilities pulsed with a living, evolutionary resonance.

The golden interface flickered, recalibrating his spells into a growth-based architecture.

[SKILL EVOLUTION SYSTEM INITIATED]

Rule: All skills now possess Proficiency Levels (1–10).

Rank-Up: Reaching Level 10 in any skill evolves it into the next Rank (e.g., F-Rank Level 10 → E-Rank Level 1).

[DIVINE PHYSIQUE OVERRIDE: ETERNAL CHANNELING]

Status: Cooldowns and Active Time Limits are DELETED.

Effect: As an Inheritor of Zeus with Infinite Mana, Kael can maintain any active skill indefinitely. His body does not suffer from "Mana Strain" or "Channeling Fatigue."

[UPDATED SKILL LIST]

Shadow Veil (Rank: F - Level 1): * Mortal Limitation: 60s duration / 5m Cooldown.

Kael's Status: PERMANENT INVISIBILITY. As long as he wills it, light will bend around him forever.

Mana Bind (Rank: E - Level 1): * Mortal Limitation: 30s bind / 10m Cooldown.

Kael's Status: ETERNAL RESTRAINT. Once the chains latch onto a target, they will never vanish until Kael cuts the mana flow or the target is crushed.

Sky-Tread (Rank: E - Level 1): * Mortal Limitation: 5m Flight / Massive Mana Drain.

Kael's Status: SOVEREIGN OF THE SKIES. Kael can live, sleep, and fight in the air. He no longer needs to touch the ground.

Kael looked down at his hands, where golden sparks danced between his fingers. To others, these were tools used in short bursts of desperation. To him, they were constant, passive extensions of his will.

He willed the Shadow Veil to activate. His body vanished from the physical world, leaving not even a ripple in the air. Then, he surged upward, the Sky-Tread propelling him toward the stratosphere at speeds that would have shattered a normal mage's concentration.

He was an invisible, flying storm, and he was just getting started.Kael hovered over the jagged peaks of the Thunder-Struck Canyons, a high-tier Rank-D Dungeon that had recently manifested in the remote coastal cliffs. The air here was a literal minefield of ionized gas and vertical stone spires that acted as natural lightning rods.

The Dungeon: The Ionized Abyss

Unlike the bioluminescent caves of his first hunt, the Ionized Abyss was a vertical rift of floating metallic ore. The atmosphere was a perpetual storm of purple static, and the "ground" was nothing more than magnetic platforms suspended over a bottomless pit of molten plasma.

[LOCATION: THE IONIZED ABYSS (RANK-D)]

[MANA DENSITY: LETHAL (THUNDER/METAL)]

Kael didn't land. He activated Shadow Veil (Level 1) and Sky-Tread (Level 1) simultaneously. To the denizens of the abyss, he was a ghost—an invisible, flying predator moving through the gale-force winds with terrifying ease.

A swarm of Metal-Winged Gargoyles—beasts with bodies of living magnet and wings of serrated steel—erupted from the canyon walls. They relied on their high-speed diving attacks to shred intruders.

Kael didn't move. He simply activated Mana Bind (Level 1).

Instead of a single cast, Kael channeled his Infinite Mana into the spell, maintaining it indefinitely. Thousands of golden spectral chains erupted from the air, seeking out every gargoyle within a hundred meters. The chains didn't vanish; they locked onto the creatures' mana cores, tethering them to the stone spires.

CRACK. CRACK. CRACK.

The gargoyles were yanked from the sky, pinned to the rocks like insects in a display case. Kael raised a hand, testing his evolved Thunder Strike.

A pillar of white-hot celestial lightning descended, not from the sky, but from Kael's own fingertips. It struck the first gargoyle and, fueled by his Divine Thunder Magus class, it didn't stop. The bolt leaped from one metal body to the next, incinerating the entire swarm in a single, continuous chain of destruction.

[YOU HAVE DEFEATED: METAL-WINGED GARGOYLE (LVL 28) x45]

[EXP GAINED: 15,000]

[THUNDER STRIKE PROFICIENCY: LVL 1 -> LVL 5]

Kael spent the next three hours systematically clearing the canyon. He didn't just hunt; he experimented. He maintained his invisibility while flying at supersonic speeds, casting binding chains that held the dungeon's Elite Boss—the Magnetar Golem—motionless while he slowly deconstructed its atomic structure with his Technomancy.

By the time the Golem shattered, Kael's vessel could no longer contain the accumulated essence.

[CORE PROGRESSION: 100/100 (E-RANK)]

[VESSEL RANK UP: E -> D]

[STRENGTH: 75 | AGILITY: 82 | VITALITY: 95]

Kael gathered the loot—massive chunks of High-Grade Magnetic Ore and a Glowing Magnetar Core worth nearly half a million dollars—and drifted toward the exit portal.

He stepped out onto the cliffside, the cool evening air hitting his face. He was just about to calculate his new earnings when his phone vibrated with a violent, rhythmic pulse.

He pulled it out. It was a call from home.

The phone vibrated violently in Kael's hand. He pressed it to his ear, and the sound of his mother's frantic, broken sobbing cut through the wind.

"Kael... oh God, Kael," Thomas's voice came through, hollow and shaking with a helpless rage. "They took her. Maya... she was just leaving the Academy. Witnesses said a black van pulled up, and before she could even drop her bag, they grabbed her. It's been two hours. We've called the Guild, the police—nobody is doing anything!"

Kael didn't speak. He didn't need to.

He closed his eyes, and his Divine Sense expanded like a sonar wave, ripples of golden light tearing through the digital and physical layers of Silverport. He ignored the millions of mundane heartbeats in the city, searching for that one specific, familiar frequency.

There.

Deep in the industrial slums, miles from the Academy, he found her. Her pulse was slow, rhythmic, and heavy—the unmistakable sign of a forced, magical unconsciousness. She wasn't in pain, and her life-force wasn't fading, but she was trapped behind thick lead-lined walls designed to dampen mana signatures.

To his Divine Sense, she was a flickering ember in a cold, dark den of wolves.

"I have her," Kael said. His voice was no longer human; it was the low, vibrating hum of a storm cloud. "Stay at the house. Lock the doors."

"Kael, wait! The police said these people are professional—"

Kael ended the call.

He didn't head for the road. He looked toward the industrial district, his eyes igniting with a blinding, primordial gold that turned the evening sky white. He activated Sky-Tread and Shadow Veil simultaneously.

There was no sound, only a sudden, violent displacement of air as Kael vanished into the stratosphere, a silent, invisible bolt of vengeance screaming toward the city's underbelly.
