Adelaide went to bake a cake.
Then the two humanoid egg beaters rested their heads on the long table, their arms hanging down naturally, like two swing ropes, swaying back and forth in the wind.
Ed watched from the corner, secretly chuckling.
"Sister Sophia, I heard you're a healer." Carly tilted her head, looking at Sophia, who was also tilting her head.
"Carly, you don't need to hear that, I am indeed a doctor, but I'm still in the learning stage."
Carly's initial assessment was, to a lesser extent, correct. However, her hands were still trembling slightly, and she clenched them tightly, unable to form a fist.
"Will they still belong to me tomorrow?" Carly waved her arm in front of Sophia, wanting to hear the opinion of a professional.
Sofia looked at Carly's hands, then at her own.
"Carly, that is indeed an interesting question, but I can tell you for sure that they still belong to you. You just might need to rest for a couple of days."
"Looks like I'll have to eat a lot of cake when it's done, otherwise I won't be able to pick up bread tomorrow," Carly thought to herself.
"Sister Sophia, have you ever eaten this cake before?" Carly tilted her head and continued to look at Sophia, asking.
If the cake is really delicious, then she can barely accept the price of having to rest her hands for two days.
"I've eaten it, it was incredibly delicious, you could say it's the best food I've ever had." Sofia still remembers the wonderful taste of the cake, a flavor she will never forget.
While the two were chatting idly.
"What's that smell?" Ed, who was in the corner, smelled something unpleasant and quickly got up and went to the fireplace.
Black smoke was already billowing from the contents of the fireplace when it was opened. The three people at the long table also rushed over.
A moment later
On the long table sat a dark, unremarkable object. Apart from the bowl supporting it, it looked nothing like a cake.
"Adelaide, is this the cake?" Carly looked at the cake curiously.
"Yes, Carly, it's a bit strange on the outside, but it must be nice inside." Adelaide wasn't sure what it was like inside either, but she still had to say it.
"Sister Adelaide, is this cake yours made from the new kind of black bread?"
Ed was taken aback: "Hehe, what a apt metaphor."
"No, Carly, although it looks a bit like black bread now, it's still very different from black bread. Its inside should be white." Adelaide wasn't quite sure if it was still white inside.
Finally, Ed found a small knife and scraped off the black stuff on the outside. But the cake seemed to have been baked a little too long; it took scraping off a thick layer before some yellow crust started to appear. Seeing the three curious onlookers, Ed cut a piece for each of them.
Hmm, there's still a little bit of softness inside, but not much left, just a little bit of the core.
Carly ate half of it and then threw up; she simply couldn't eat anymore.
"Sister Adelaide, this cake is even worse than black bread, it's so bitter!"
She could accept something a little harder, since dark bread is hard too, but this cake was just too bitter.
She felt that all her hard work had been for nothing, and she couldn't accept the fact that her hands would have to rest tomorrow.
Adelaide and Sofia had eaten cake before, but they only tasted this one and then put it down; it was indeed very bitter and had a burnt taste.
"Here, Carly, this is for you, it's delicious." Ed gave Carly a small piece of the filling, since she was the only one who hadn't tried it before.
Carly took the last piece of cake Ed offered her and slowly put it in her mouth.
"Ah! Is there anything else, Lord Ed?"
