The Temple Beneath the Moon
The hidden passage stretched deep beneath the ruins.
Cold air moved through the narrow stone corridor, carrying a strange scent that Maya could not recognize. The walls around them glowed faintly blue, illuminating ancient carvings covered in dust and cracks.
Arjun walked carefully beside Maya, holding the lantern high.
Its soft light mixed with the mysterious glow around them.
Neither of them spoke for several minutes.
The silence felt heavy.
Not empty—
But waiting.
As they moved deeper underground, the corridor slowly widened.
The carvings on the walls became clearer.
Maya stopped for a moment and traced her fingers lightly across one of the symbols.
A crescent moon.
Surrounded by flowers.
And beneath it—
A single word written in an ancient language.
The moment Maya touched it, the symbol glowed softly.
A sudden whisper filled her mind.
Lunaria…
Maya stepped back quickly.
Her breathing became uneven.
Arjun looked at her with concern.
"What happened?" he asked.
Maya pressed a hand against her chest.
"I heard something again," she whispered.
"What did it say?"
She hesitated.
"Lunaria."
The name echoed strangely through the corridor.
Arjun frowned slightly.
"I've never heard that before."
Maya slowly looked ahead into the darkness.
"But somehow… it feels important."
They continued walking.
After a few more minutes, the corridor finally opened into a massive underground chamber.
Both of them froze.
The sight before them was breathtaking.
An enormous temple stood hidden beneath the earth.
Silver pillars stretched toward the high ceiling like giant trees. Ancient crystals floated softly in the air, glowing with pale blue light that reflected across the polished stone floor.
At the center of the temple stood a circular pool of water so clear that it looked like glass.
And above it—
A giant crystal moon floated silently in the darkness.
Its silver light filled the entire chamber.
Beautiful.
Peaceful.
Otherworldly.
Maya stared at the temple in complete silence.
A strange emotion filled her heart.
Sadness.
Warmth.
Longing.
As if she had returned to a forgotten home.
Arjun looked equally stunned.
"This place…" he whispered.
"It's impossible."
No ordinary ruins could hide something like this.
The temple felt ancient beyond imagination.
And yet—
It still lived.
Maya slowly stepped forward.
As she approached the glowing pool, the floating crystal above began shining brighter.
The entire temple responded to her presence.
Soft light flowed across the walls like moving water.
The air itself seemed to awaken.
Suddenly—
Voices echoed softly around them.
Not one voice.
Many.
Gentle whispers layered together.
Welcome back…
Maya's eyes widened.
She turned around quickly.
"Did you hear that?"
Arjun nodded slowly this time.
"Yes."
His voice sounded tense.
"I heard it too."
Before they could react further, the water inside the circular pool began to move.
Ripples spread across the surface even though nothing touched it.
Then—
A figure slowly appeared within the reflection.
A woman.
Beautiful and elegant.
She wore silver robes that shimmered like moonlight, and long white hair flowed gently behind her.
Her eyes glowed softly.
Ancient.
Wise.
Maya's breath caught.
The woman looked familiar.
Too familiar.
The figure inside the water smiled gently.
"Child of Lunaria," she said softly.
"You have finally returned."
Maya stepped back slightly.
"Who are you?" she asked.
The woman's reflection flickered like moving water.
"My name has long been forgotten," she replied.
"But once… I was the guardian of this temple."
Arjun instinctively moved closer to Maya.
Protective.
Careful.
"Why did you bring us here?" he asked firmly.
The guardian's eyes shifted toward him.
For a moment, silence filled the chamber.
Then she smiled faintly.
"Because darkness is waking."
The warmth inside the temple suddenly faded slightly.
A cold wind swept through the chamber.
"The seal protecting this land is weakening," the guardian continued.
"And only the child of the moon can restore it."
Maya's heart pounded heavily.
"Child of the moon…" she repeated softly.
The words felt unreal.
Impossible.
The guardian slowly raised her hand.
The glowing water beneath her shimmered brightly.
"You were born with the power of Lunaria," she explained.
"A power connected to life, nature, and moonlight itself."
Maya lowered her gaze toward her trembling hands.
The silver glow appeared faintly around her fingers again.
So it was true.
She really was different.
"But why can't I remember anything?" Maya asked quietly.
Pain filled her voice.
"I don't remember my family… my past… nothing."
The guardian's expression softened.
"Because your memories were sealed away to protect you."
Maya froze.
"Protected from what?"
Before the guardian could answer—
A violent tremor shook the entire temple.
The floating crystals flickered wildly.
The glowing pool rippled violently.
Arjun immediately grabbed Maya's arm to steady her.
"What was that?" he asked sharply.
The guardian's face darkened.
"He has found you."
The air inside the temple suddenly grew colder.
Much colder.
Dark smoke began spreading slowly from the shadows near the far pillars.
The peaceful light of the temple weakened.
Something evil had entered.
A deep voice echoed through the chamber.
Cold.
Cruel.
Ancient.
"So the lost child truly survived."
Arjun's body tensed immediately.
Maya felt fear freeze inside her chest.
From the darkness, a tall figure slowly emerged.
A man dressed in black armor covered in silver markings.
Long dark hair rested over his shoulders, and his glowing crimson eyes shined like fire inside the shadows.
His presence alone made the air feel heavy.
Dangerous.
The guardian's expression filled with fear.
"Malrik…" she whispered.
The man smiled slowly.
A calm but terrifying smile.
"It has been a long time," he said.
His crimson eyes locked directly onto Maya.
"And now… the moon princess has returned."
Maya stepped back instinctively.
Arjun immediately moved in front of her.
Protective once again.
Malrik looked at Arjun with amusement.
"A farmer?" he said mockingly.
"You protect her with mortal hands?"
His voice carried quiet cruelty.
Arjun did not move.
"I don't care who you are," he replied firmly.
"You're not touching her."
For a brief moment—
Silence filled the temple.
Then Malrik laughed softly.
Dark energy slowly spread around his body like black smoke.
"You humans never understand your weakness," he whispered.
The glowing temple lights dimmed further.
The air trembled violently.
And Maya suddenly realized—
The true danger had finally appeared.
But before Malrik could move—
The giant crystal moon above the temple suddenly shined brilliantly.
Silver light exploded across the chamber.
Malrik's expression changed instantly.
For the first time—
He looked surprised.
Maya felt warmth rush through her body again.
Stronger than ever before.
The temple itself was responding to her.
Awakening for her.
Protecting her.
And deep inside her sealed memories—
