Chapter 5 - The hidden observer

CHAPTER 5 — "The Hidden Observer"

Rayn didn't move.

Not even a breath.

His eyes stayed locked on the man.

That smile…

It didn't feel friendly anymore.

It felt like a warning.

THUMP.

Rayn felt it again.

That strange heartbeat.

But this time—

it wasn't inside him alone.

The air around the man… reacted.

Like reality itself bent slightly around him.

Rayn's fingers tightened.

"…Who are you?" he asked quietly.

The man didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he stepped closer.

One step.

Then another.

Calm.

Controlled.

Too calm.

"You already met me," the man said.

Rayn frowned.

"…No, I didn't."

The man tilted his head slightly.

"I've been watching you longer than you think."

Silence.

Rayn's little brother slowly moved behind him.

Afraid.

Clinging to his shirt.

The man's gaze flicked to the child.

Then back to Rayn.

"You didn't reject the awakening."

"You absorbed it."

Rayn's eyes widened slightly.

"…What are you talking about?"

The man finally stopped walking.

And smiled.

But this time—

it wasn't warm at all.You are not normal," the man said.

"You never were."

Rayn clenched his fists.

"I'm just trying to survive."

The man nodded slowly.

"That's what makes you dangerous."

A pause.

Then—

"I work for something called the Observer Division."

Rayn blinked.

"…Observer?"

The man's voice lowered.

"We watch people like you."

"People who shouldn't exist in the system's design."

Rayn's heart skipped.

"…System?"

The man raised his hand slightly.

And a faint symbol appeared in the air.

Like a floating mark.

Glowing.

Alive.

Rayn stepped back instantly.

THUMP.

The moment the symbol appeared—

Rayn's body reacted.

Pain shot through his chest.

"Ghh—!"

He dropped to one knee.

The ground beneath him cracked slightly again.

The man didn't move.

He only observed.

"…There it is," he whispered.

"Automatic resonance."

Rayn gritted his teeth.

"…Stop… what are you doing to me?"

The man finally lowered his hand.

The pressure disappeared instantly.

Rayn gasped for air.

The man crouched slightly to meet Rayn's eyes.

"You don't understand what happened to you."

Rayn glared.

"Then explain it."

A pause.

Then the man spoke calmly.

"When the system rejects someone completely…"

"They are supposed to disappear."

Rayn froze.

"But you didn't."

The man's eyes sharpened.

"You adapted."

Rayn's voice trembled slightly.

"…That's not possible."

The man stood again.

"It shouldn't be."

"That's why you're being watched."

Suddenly—

the environment shifted.

The air grew heavier.

Not naturally.

Like something unseen activated.

Rayn looked around quickly.

"…What's happening?"

The man stepped back.

"…They found you faster than expected."

Rayn turned sharply.

"Who?!"

But before the man could answer—

A shadow appeared behind Rayn's brother.

Silent.

Instant.

Wrong.

Rayn's eyes widened.

"…NO—!

Without thinking—

Rayn moved.

Faster than before.

His hand grabbed his brother and pulled him back.

The shadow missed.

But the ground exploded where they stood.

BOOM!

Dust filled the air.

Rayn stood between his brother and the unknown entity.

Breathing hard.

Eyes shaking.

"…I said don't touch him…"

The shadow slowly turned.

And spoke.

Not human.

Not system.

Just a voice of emptiness.

"Target confirmed."

Rayn's heart dropped.

The man behind him muttered softly:

"…Too late."

The observer took a step back.

"This is where my job ends."

Rayn turned slightly.

"What are you—"

But the man interrupted.

"You either awaken fully…"

"…orere."

The shadow moved again.

Faster this time.

Rayn's eyes darkened.

His heartbeat echoed louder.

THUMP.

The air cracked.

And for the first time—

Rayn didn't hold back.
