Chapter 27: A Godly Misunderstanding (Part 1)

"And just like that, I missed him..."

king scratched his head as he looked at the deserted district, feeling a bit troubled. His original plan was to find a taxi to A-City, but it seemed that hope was now lost.

He couldn't drive himself, so the streets full of empty cars were useless to him.

It was safe now, at least. After all, wherever Baldy passed, monsters either fled or went extinct.

But still, how was he supposed to get back to A-City?

He had a headache... wait a minute. Someone had appeared just now, and then Saitama coincidentally showed up too. Plus, he'd heard Saitama say he killed a four-faced monster. Heh, that means a Monster Card.

His eyes lit up. After hiding the microphone, he began wandering the streets alone, searching for the monster's corpse.

A few minutes later.

"Heh, just as I expected."

He arrived at a certain street and, sure enough, saw a fallen monster. The corners of his mouth curled up as he stepped forward with unrestrained joy and touched it.

"Ding! Congratulations, Host, for obtaining a Four-Star Card: Desire Decider!"

"Ding! Congratulations, Host, for collecting a rare Monster Card. As a reward, the Host will be restored to peak condition."

A wave of comfort washed over him, and his energy was instantly restored to its peak, leaving him feeling refreshed in a flash.

This felt great!

...

A-City, Hero Association Headquarters.

Maria, the person in charge of monitoring the cameras around O-City, frowned and said loudly, "Director, the monster has disappeared from the camera's view! It's no longer within the camera's range, and it hasn't appeared on its estimated path of advance. The surrounding street cameras haven't captured any trace of the monster either."

Sitch guessed in shock, "What? Could it be that the monster has already sensed something and is deliberately avoiding our attack?"

"Director, the government's military drones have arrived at the designated location. Should they begin the search operation?"

"Have them immediately search for the monster's location. At the same time, have them divert their camera feed to us for reference."

"Yes, sir."

Coulson was very efficient. A moment later, the drone footage was displayed on the large screen in the operations room.

"Where's the monster? Why has it vanished?"

Sitch and the others stared anxiously at the footage transmitted by the drone. The seven- to eight-meter-tall monster had disappeared.

"Wait a second, look at that black dot. Have Drone 8 descend to observe."

Child Emperor, with his sharp eyes, spotted the anomaly at a glance.

The order was quickly sent out. Drone 8 slowly descended, its camera panning around, converting the surrounding scenery into a video feed and sending it back.

"Right, lower, a little lower... look over there..."

Child Emperor pointed to a shadow that appeared on the screen. No, it wasn't a shadow, it was the monster's corpse. The Desire Decider, which had been so utterly unstoppable just a short while ago, was lying collapsed on the street. Its four-faced head had already been reduced to a pile of meat paste. Several eyeballs rested on the paste, brain matter was splattered about, and inky black blood pooled on the ground.

"Hiss~"

Sitch and the others sucked in a sharp breath. This... this was the Desire Decider that had just one-shotted Superalloy Darkshine and easily defeated more than a dozen of Metal Knight's high-level robots? Judging by its gruesome death, its head had been blown apart by a single punch. It hadn't had any chance to resist.

"Who... who did this... It's... it's too terrifying."

Maria and the others stared blankly at the horrifically dead monster, a churning sensation rising in their stomachs.

"Wait, tell Drone 8 to continue its descent."

Child Emperor—young, less jaded, and with excellent eyesight—once again spotted a black dot on the screen.

The drone quickly descended, and the camera focused on the human figure beside the monster. King's invigorated face appeared on the screen.

"Is that... is that King?"

Sitch and the others' eyes widened.

Child Emperor gulped. "He's actually unbound by rules. A man like a god."

*Well, king can transmigrate, so he is indeed unbound by rules. And King is indeed a god-like man. Can't refute your assessment.*

Metal Bat squinted at the King on the screen. "What a powerful aura." *Hey, hey, where did you see King's powerful aura? That's a complete guess, isn't it?*

Tanktop Master's palms gripped his dumbbells tightly. "To blow up a monster's head with one punch... such terrifying power. I'm afraid even someone as strong as me couldn't do it. He's truly worthy of being called the Strongest Man."

*Hey, hey, calm down. The one who killed the monster really wasn't King. This is a huge misunderstanding.*

Flashy Flash silently glanced at the dead monster, then leaned back against the wall with his beloved sword and closed his eyes to rest. *It seems my speed won't be needed for this monster crisis after all.*

"Excellent! The monster has been eliminated! Long live King!"

"Haha, I was scared stiff watching that monster head straight for our A-City, with pedestrians collapsing inexplicably along the way. I never thought King would take care of it so easily."

"Phew, when Superalloy Darkshine and Metal Knight were defeated, my heart almost leaped out of my chest. It feels like there hasn't been a single record of two S-Class heroes being defeated since the association was founded."

Maria and the other staff members cheered excitedly. Ever since the Desire Decider appeared, it had advanced toward A-City with an unstoppable momentum. S-Class Rank 10 Superalloy Darkshine was defeated. S-Class Rank 6 Metal Knight was also defeated. S-Class Rank 5 Child Emperor deduced that the monster was nearly invincible. Under these circumstances, they were about to despair. But then, at the critical moment, the monster died. It died inexplicably, yet it also made perfect sense, because it... encountered King.

That Strongest Man on Earth, the invincible warrior, the hero who sweeps away all before him, the guardian deity of humanity—King!

"The Strongest Man—King!"

"King!"

"King!"

The operations room erupted in song and dance as the staff frantically celebrated the end of the crisis.

*Hey, hey, just because King is standing next to the monster, you assume he's the one who killed it? Your work attitude is a huge problem! Can't you investigate carefully before drawing a conclusion?*

*The Blind Association, truly lives up to its name!*

"Quick, dispatch a plane! Bring King and Mike back! Hopefully, now that the monster is dealt with, the unconscious citizens will regain consciousness." Sitch laughed as he gave the order.

"Hey, did you guys notice? From the parking spot to the monster's location, King's figure was never captured by any camera."

"Just a coincidence, right?"

"Tsk, how could it be such a coincidence? There are many cameras around that area. Unless his luck is heaven-defying, it's impossible to miss all of them. He would definitely be caught by one or two."

"Then why wasn't King spotted beforehand?"

"Heh, I heard that when a person's speed is fast enough, a camera can't capture their image. With King's strength, I guess he just went *swoosh* past that section of road. At most, the cameras would only see some scraps of paper flying up for no reason, but they wouldn't be able to spot King's figure at all."

After the crisis was averted, the staff gathered in small groups to shoot the breeze.

Hmm?

Flashy Flash, who had his eyes closed, opened his beautiful eyes. A sharp glint flashed past. The hand holding his sword pushed lightly, and with a metallic clang, his beloved sword popped out of its sheath by a few inches, its sharp edge gleaming brilliantly.

*Very fast, you say? King?*

In the air between A-City and O-City, Tatsumaki stretched languidly out of boredom and took out her phone to call headquarters. "Hello? Those government guys are too slow, aren't they? It's taking them so much effort just to lure out a monster. What's the use of having them? Huh? The monster is eliminated? What? It was eliminated by that fraud King again? Ah! Ah! Ah! Unforgivable! That damn King stole my credit again..."

She hung up, gnashing her teeth, and pointed towards O-City. "Damn you, King! You just wait! Sooner or later, I'll defeat you in front of everyone..."

PS: Flashy Flash's Little Theater

Flashy Flash: Beibei, come, come, come. You better explain why this old master has no lines again in this chapter.

S-Class Hero Rank 666 Beibei: Oh, I felt that giving you another paragraph of lines would be too much padding, so I had it cut.

Flashy Flash: Beibei, you cut this old master's lines, so this old master will cut you down! I'll let you know what speed is!

Beibei: I'll give you lines next chapter, so scram with speed.

Flashy Flash: Alright, it's a deal! Ultimate Technique: Lightspeed Scrambled Egg!
