Chapter 15 - CHAPTER FIFTEEN: The Moment Control Breaks

The night felt wrong before anything even happened.

Bella could not explain it. The air in the mansion felt heavier than usual, the silence sharper, like it was waiting for something to snap.

Still, she convinced herself it was the meeting.

The message.

The possibility of answers.

She left before sunrise.

Careful.

Quiet.

Avoiding the main staff routes as she had watched Rico do countless times. If he could move like a shadow, then she could learn too.

Or so she believed.

Outside the mansion gates, a black vehicle was already parked.

Engine off.

Lights dim.

Too still to be innocent.

Bella slowed.

A voice came through her mind immediately.

This is wrong.

But another voice was louder.

It's your father.

Before she could step back, the door opened.

Not forcefully.

Not rushed.

Calm.

Deliberate.

A man stepped out.

Masking nothing but revealing nothing either.

"Bella Collins," he said softly. "You came alone."

Her heart tightened instantly.

"This isn't my father," she said firmly.

A faint smile formed beneath the mask.

"No," he replied. "But I am the reason you might finally learn the truth."

Her instincts screamed at her to run.

She turned—

Too late.

Two more figures appeared behind her.

No noise.

No warning.

Professionals.

She tried to move, but everything happened too fast.

A hand grabbed her wrist.

Another covered her mouth.

Her struggle was sharp—but brief.

The world tilted.

Darkness swallowed her before she could even call for help.

UNKNOWN LOCATION

The room was dim.

Cold.

No windows.

No sound except the faint hum of distant machinery.

Bella woke tied to a chair, her breathing uneven, panic rising slowly like fire spreading through dry grass.

"You're safe," the masked man said calmly.

She pulled against the restraints immediately.

"Let me go!"

"No," he replied simply. "Not yet."

Her eyes burned with fear and anger.

"Who are you?"

A pause.

Then—

"Someone correcting a long-overdue mistake."

RICO

The call came in the moment Bella's location signal vanished.

Rico didn't ask questions.

He didn't pause.

He didn't think.

He moved.

"Trace everything again," his voice cut through the line, colder than steel.

"She's gone," Marco said carefully.

Rico's expression didn't change.

But the temperature in the room dropped.

"She is not gone," he said quietly. "She is taken."

A silence followed.

Then Rico reached for his coat.

Every movement precise.

Controlled.

But something darker was beginning to surface beneath that control.

Something no one around him saw often.

Not anger.

Not panic.

Something closer to destruction.

"Find her," he ordered.

A pause.

Then lower—

"Before I do."

BELLA

Back in the chair, Bella forced herself to breathe slowly.

Fear was useful.

Panic was not.

She had learned that somewhere between survival and instinct.

The masked man watched her closely.

"You're stronger than expected," he said.

"What do you want?" she demanded again.

He tilted his head slightly.

"Rico Zander to lose control."

Her stomach tightened.

Rico.

Even here.

Even now.

"You think kidnapping me will make him come?" she asked sharply.

A quiet laugh.

"He will not just come," the man said. "He will burn everything getting here."

RICO

The convoy moved fast.

Too fast for normal response time.

Rico didn't sit. He didn't speak. He only stared ahead as the city blurred past the windows.

His jaw was locked.

His eyes were darker than usual.

Bella.

One thought.

One name.

Everything else collapsed behind it.

Marco broke the silence carefully.

"This is a trap."

Rico replied instantly.

"I know."

Another pause.

"And you're still going?"

Rico's voice dropped.

"I am ending it."

UNKNOWN LOCATION

Bella struggled again, but the restraints held firm.

The man stepped closer this time.

"You should be afraid," he said.

"I am not," she lied.

A pause.

Then—

"You will be," he replied.

A distant sound echoed through the building.

Engines.

Fast.

Approaching.

Multiple.

The masked man turned slightly toward the sound.

"Perfect," he murmured.

Bella's breath caught.

Somewhere deep inside, she already knew.

He was coming.

Not calmly.

Not carefully.

Not as the man she had been learning to understand.

But as something far more dangerous.

Something that did not negotiate.

Something that did not forgive.

Rico Zander had arrived.

And whatever happened next…

would not be controlled.
