Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Crystal and the Rose (Part I)

The Lake Kingdom didn't dawn; it awoke in a burst of liquid light. From the white coral towers to the crystal bridges, every corner of the capital had been transformed for the wedding of the millennium. Water, the elves' lifeblood, was the star: inverted waterfalls flowed from the ceilings of the great hall, defying gravity to cascade into silver bowls, creating a musical murmur that accompanied the preparations.

In the main hall, the air was saturated with the perfume of ten thousand flowers. Enchanted water bubbles, the size of pearls, floated everywhere, containing butterflies with translucent wings that shimmered with iridescent colors. The black marble floor had been covered with a layer of crushed diamonds, simulating eternal frost, yet with the warmth of the sun filtering through the stained-glass windows.

The Bride's Sanctuary

In the private chambers, chaos was a dance of love. Lady Elara held her daughter's hands as Lyra and Elowen finished adjusting the veil.

"Look at you, Adara," Lyra whispered, her eyes misting. "You don't look like an elf, you look like the very spirit of the lake."

Adara possessed a beauty that was almost painful to behold. Her gown, a masterpiece of moon silk, fell in flowing layers that mimicked the movement of the waves. The bodice was embroidered with mother-of-pearl scales and tiny sapphires that caught the light with every breath. Her silver hair, partially gathered in braids of silver thread, cascaded in soft curls over her white shoulders.

"Promise me you'll write to us," Elowen pleaded, holding her tightly. "The human capital is cold, but take our warmth with you."

"I will always be your Adara," she replied, with a nobility that calmed her family's nerves. "No matter how far destiny takes me."

The Altar of the Worlds

Karan waited at the altar. His figure, imposing in a midnight-blue velvet gown with silver details, contrasted with the ethereal elven decor. His face was a mask of absolute respect, but his blue eyes never ceased searching for the entrance.

Lord Valerius presented his daughter with slow steps. Before releasing her hand, he turned to Karan. A profound silence fell.

"Lord Karan," Valerius said in a hoarse voice, a fatherly warning disguised as diplomacy. "I entrust you with my greatest treasure. I have seen kingdoms fall and prophecies rise, but nothing matters more to me than my daughter's smile. Protect her, not only from the world, but from the loneliness that immortality sometimes brings."

Karan met Valerius's gaze with unwavering seriousness.

"Lord Valerius, my sword has defended borders for millennia, but from this day forward, my entire life is Adara's shield. She will know no cold as long as I have breath."

At that moment, Karan drew a small object from inside his doublet: the bond of union. It was a platinum bracelet with a central gem that seemed to hold a perpetual blizzard. As he placed it on Adara's wrist, the metal settled with a comforting warmth. It was the seal of his house, a symbol that she was, now and forever, untouchable under his name.
