Chapter 7 - Caleums silent fast fall

The ships didn't return as heroes.

They returned in silence.

No victory.

No celebration.

Only survivors.

The fleet descended toward Caleum—one of the small planets in the Aurellia system.

A supply world.

A recovery point.

A place where soldiers were supposed to breathe.

"Docking sequence initiated."

Dropships entered the massive hangars one by one, their hulls scorched and fractured.

Medics rushed forward immediately.

"Scan them."

"Check for infection."

"Move the wounded—now!"

Bodies were carried out.

Some alive.

Some barely holding on.

"Clear."

"Clear."

"No infection detected."

Everything seemed normal and quiet...

Too normal and quiet.

Akane stepped off the ship slowly.

His boots echoed softly against the metal floor.

His body was intact.

But his mind—

Still on that battlefield.

I left him…

"…Akane."

He looked up.

Aira stood a few steps away.

"…I was worried" she said.

"…Yeah."

That was all.

Aira frowned slightly.

Something about him felt… distant.

After they left.

At control.

"Medical report from Sector 3!"

A group of medics turned reports.

"Several soldiers showing respiratory distress." were shown

"…inside caleum?.

"Probably exposure from Stellar," one of the medics replied.

The government of Caleum didnt questioned it.

Not yet.

Something Doesn't Add Up

Minutes turned to hours.

Then—

More reports came in.

"Sector 5—same symptoms!"

"Medical wing—unaffected personnel are getting sick!"

"Supply crew too—this isn't just soldiers!"

Confusion spread.

The government said

"…That's impossible…"

"They weren't even deployed!"

Amidst of the governments desperation.

"Seal the sectors!" the government ordered.

Metal doors slammed shut across Caleum.

"Quarantine protocols activated."

But the spread didn't stop.

It accelerated.

Inside a sealed research lab in Caleum.

Data flooded across screens.

"Run the atmospheric scan again!" a scientist demanded.

"…I already did earlier…"

"Then do it again!"

After the scan completed.

The result shocked the scientist.

"…No way…"

"What is it?" a scientist asked.

The scientist who saw stepped back slowly.

"It's not just biological…"

The room went still.

"It's in the air."

one of the scientist said.

"…Explain it."

"It's a form of radiated carbon dioxide-highly concentrated…and unstable…"

"…You're saying we're breathing it?"

The scientist didn't answer.

Because the answer was obvious.

It was too Late.

The main scientist said.

"Shut down ventilation systems!"

"Activate filtration—maximum capacity!"

But it didn't matter.

Because it wasn't just inside.

Outside the Planet

Outside and inside the aurellia system

Drifting in silence—

We're dozens of invisible gas clouds.

Moving.

Spreading.

Watching.

Back inside the station—

A soldier collapsed.

Then another.

"…Get him up—!"

"It was too late!"

The infected soldier body twitched.

Then moved.

"INFECTED—!"

Gunfire erupted instantly.

Panic spread faster than the virus.

"They're inside the station!"

The hallways filled with screams.

Doors were forced open.

Barricades shattered.

The infected moved fast.

Too fast.

And they weren't random.

Something… felt...off.

Akane ran with a group of survivors, helping a wounded soldier stay on his feet.

"Keep moving!" someone shouted.

They turned a corner—

And froze.

A group of infected stood ahead.

Gazing at them.

Not attacking.

Just… looking.

"…Why aren't they moving…?" a soldier whispered.

Some of the infected tilted their heads slightly.

Watching the walls.

The doors.

The structures.

"…What the hell…"

Then—

One of them touched a control panel.

"…Did it just—?"

Before the thought finished—

They charged.

Not Mindless

Gunfire exploded.

Akane pulled the wounded soldier back.

"…They're not just attacking…" he muttered.

"…They're observing…"

More areas fell.

Power flickered.

Security systems failed.

But not randomly.

Sections that controlled doors.

Ventilation.

Access routes.

Were being hit first.

Akane Realizes

Akane stopped for a split second.

His eyes widened slightly.

They're learning…

Aira Rejoins

"AKANE!"

Aira rushed toward him, breathing heavily.

"…The whole station's collapsing!"

"I know," he replied.

"…We need to get out. Now."

No Safe Zone Left.

Its a blunder holding them.

Alarms screamed endlessly.

"ALL PERSONNEL—EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY!"

Ships began launching early.

Some overloaded.

Some never left.

Akane and Aira ran together.

Side by side.

Not talking.

Not thinking.

Just surviving.

Behind them—

The station was falling.

Not just to infection—

But to something evolving.

As they reached the exit—

Akane looked back.

Through the smoke—

Through the chaos—

An infected stood on an elevated platform.

Watching everything.

Not moving.

Not attacking.

Just observing.

Then—

It slowly turned its head—

And left.

The ship doors closed.

Engines roared.

Caleum faded behind them.

But this time—

It wasn't just a lost planet.

It was proof.

This wasn't just an outbreak.

It was something learning.

Adapting.

And humanity—

Was no longer fighting something mindless.

They were being studied.
