Chapter 9 - Do Not Move

It moved.

Not forward.

Not backward.

Just… wrong.

My breath caught as I stared at it.

The thing in front of me didn't have a fixed shape.

One moment, it resembled something human—

A vague outline.

A suggestion.

Then it broke.

Not physically.

Not like something shattering.

It slipped.

Like my eyes couldn't hold onto it.

Like its existence didn't agree with reality itself.

"…What… is that…?"

The words barely left my mouth.

The room felt dead.

The fan above me was frozen mid-spin.

The curtain near the window hung in the air, like time itself had been cut apart.

Even the distant sounds of the outside world—

Gone.

"…Time stopped…?"

No answer came.

Only silence.

And that thing.

It didn't move.

Didn't approach.

Didn't attack.

It just… existed.

And somehow—

That felt worse.

There was no intent I could read.

No emotion.

No pattern.

It wasn't waiting.

It didn't need to.

Because whatever it was—

It already knew.

Knew that something would break.

And when it did—

It would be there.

My heartbeat pounded in my ears.

I was scared.

It was—

Loud.

Violent.

Then—

[Emergency Protocol Activated]

The screen burst into existence.

Flickering violently.

Unstable.

[System Error…][Foreign Influence Detected][Control Override Attempt Blocked]

"…Control…?"

Before I could even process it—

My finger moved.

"…Huh?"

I hadn't moved.

I was sure of it.

Slowly—

My hand twitched again.

Not responding.

Not obeying.

"…Move…"

I tried.

There was a delay.

A disconnect.

Like my body—

Was no longer entirely mine.

A cold sensation crept up my arm.

Like goosebumps—

But deeper.

Not pain.

Absence.

Like something was filling the space where I should have been.

"…Stop…"

My voice trembled.

[Stabilization in Progress… 00:10:00]

A timer appeared.

Counting down.

[Directive: DO NOT MOVE][Directive: DO NOT RUN]

"…Are you serious…?"

My chest tightened.

Don't move?

Don't run?

"Then what the hell am I supposed to do…?"

My eyes shifted back to the thing.

It was closer.

I hadn't seen it move.

But it was closer.

"…It reacts…"

Not to sound.

Not to presence.

To me.

To my movement.

A drop of cold sweat rolled down my face.

My body screamed at me to run.

Every instinct—

Every survival reflex—

Move.

Run.

Escape.

But the system—

Said the opposite.

"…Damn it…"

I forced myself still.

Completely still.

Even my breathing—

I tried to slow it down.

But then—

The thing shifted.

No—

It didn't shift.

It unfolded.

That was the only way to describe it.

Its shape broke apart—

Then reassembled—

In ways that didn't make sense.

Angles that shouldn't exist.

Depth that felt… far too wrong.

Like it wasn't fully here.

Like part of it existed somewhere else—

Somewhere I couldn't understand—

And I was only seeing a fragment forced into this world.

My eyes strained trying to understand it.

The more I looked—

The less it made sense.

"…Don't look…"

That thought came naturally.

Because something inside me—

Knew.

This wasn't something I was meant to see.

The timer ticked down.

00:08:52

Too slow.

My legs trembled slightly.

My muscles burned.

Staying still—

Was harder than running.

Then—

My finger moved again.

Slowly.

Unnaturally.

"…I didn't move."

My voice shook.

For a moment—

I couldn't feel my own hand.

Like the connection between my mind and body—

Had been cut.

Or worse—

Taken.

A strange pressure built inside my head.

"Turn."

The thought appeared.

Not mine.

"…No…"

"Turn around."

Stronger this time.

My neck twitched slightly.

"…Stop…"

I clenched my jaw.

Fighting it.

This wasn't me.

[Control Override Attempt Blocked]

The screen glitched violently.

"…Hurry up…"

The timer continued.

00:05:17

Halfway.

But it didn't feel like progress.

It felt like I was losing.

The thing leaned forward.

Its form bending in ways that didn't follow any rule.

Like space itself was folding around it.

For a brief second—

I thought I saw something like a face.

But the moment I tried to process it—

It disappeared.

Like my mind refused to understand.

A sharp pain stabbed behind my eyes.

"…I shouldn't look at it…"

My breathing became uneven.

The pressure inside my head grew stronger.

The thing didn't chase.

Didn't rush.

It simply adjusted.

Each time—

I slipped.

Each time—

It came closer.

The timer—

00:02:36

Almost there.

Just a little more.

Just don't move.

Just don't lose control.

My body felt heavier.

Harder to command.

Then—

My finger moved.

Again.

This time—

More clearly.

"…I didn't move."

My voice cracked.

"Then… who did?"

The thing reacted instantly.

It didn't step.

Didn't run.

It was just—

There.

Right in front of me.

Closer than before.

For the first time—

I saw it.

Not clearly.

But enough.

Something like a face—

Wrong.

Completely wrong.

Not human.

Not anything.

Something my mind couldn't hold onto.

Something that didn't belong—

In this world.

My vision blurred.

My thoughts froze.

And then—

It moved.
