Chapter 6 - Chapter Six

Mason

We arrested the shop owner, he had accidentally let something slip, he told us he had a secret security camera when he was rambling on trying to catch us off guard.

While he was rambling on to Oliver, I slipped away and started searching for it, when I had seen it, I took it with me.

I gave it to the ICT guy we usually went and had him check the tape.

He came back with the video and it showed him and a partner breaking the glass and scoping his store clean.

It looked like when they had both entered and cleared the shop, the partner had reminded him that an actual thief would have broken in and they immediately smashed the glasses.

But unlucky for them, the pieces were at the wrong side of the door.

Though he had a mask on, the tattoo on his hand was very visible through the camera.

We read him his rights and took him in, along with his partner.

"I would like for you all to give a round of applause to detectives Moore and Greene" captain smith said as he walked out of his office.

"They've succeeded in yet another case, keep it up you both" he said as he gave us a small smile before his face returned to its normal look.

"Good job Moore" I heard making me turn to Ashley.

"Thanks Ashley" I said, she nodded and went back to her table.

"You can leave early today" captain said as went back to his office.

"Sweet" Oliver cheered as he took his jacket off the table.

"I'll hang around for a bit, you can leave though" I told him, he bid me good bye and walked away.

I don't really have anything to do and I still haven't decided on going to the dinner with Damian.

'We need the help we can get if we want that man to rot in jail' my subconscious mind said.

"Fuck" I said as I let out a sigh, I took another file off my table, maybe I can distract myself with another case.

.

.

.

It's evening now, and I still have a few minutes left before the dinner.

I had decided to go for the dinner, if he says he can help, then I owe it to him to hear him out.

I almost didn't go though,

That's the truth.

And also because I actually missed Damian. Maybe I'm just using this as an excuse to see him.

It's been so long since I last saw him.

21 fucking years. 21!!.

Just seeing Damian last night, -Damian-, after twenty-one years of silence, after twenty one years of not knowing if he was alive or not, if he would even remember me, I thought i was imagining, even though he was standing right in front of me, even when he had his finger on my face.

I didn't want to believe, and a part of me still doesn't believe it, nobody just reappears after two decades like that, not unless they want something.

And now I have to have dinner with him to get information about Demon Salazar.

I would like to believe that's the only reason why I'm going to this dinner.

Even though that tiny voice in my head keeps tell me that's not the only reason.

Now, I'm standing outside a low-lit Italian place downtown, staring at my reflection in the window like I'm about to interrogate myself.

I didn't get a full look at Damian last night because it was a bit dark, yes I did see him, but it was mostly his build, his height and his eyes, I didn't actually see him very try well, and maybe my mind was playing tricks with me last night.

I was exhausted from work, so maybe I was imagining his look?, I want to see if he actually looks like that, does he actually look like the guy I saw last night.

In my head he's still thirteen, skinny, tall, long hair, nervous laugh, always walking half a step behind me like I knew where I was going.

Inside, I spot him immediately.

He stands when he sees me.

It's actually him, the guy from yesterday is actually Damian.

He's broader, taller-I didn't want to believe it last night-, his hair is darker than I remember.

There's a steadiness to him that wasn't there before. But the eyes are the same. Too observant for their own good, they always held his emotions.

"Mason" he says, like he's testing how it feels in his mouth.

Ever since I've meet him-years ago- I notice that he loves saying my name, if he doesn't start his conversation with it, he would end with it.

"Damian" I nod once, Professional and Controlled, I'm here on business, he said he can help me out and that's why I agreed to this dinner, nothing else, just business.

We sit. There's a second of awkward silence, like we're both flipping through twenty-one years of missed pages and trying to decide where to start.

"You look... so handsome" he says making me look at him, he had a warm look in his eyes.

I huff a laugh. "That's a lie"

He smiles, but it's soft. "No. I'm being honest, it's not like you've never not looked handsome, you just look so mature, so grown up and so handsome Mason"

"Thank you Damian, you look handsome too, you've grown so well"

That makes him look at me in a way I can't quite read "thank you Mace"
