Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: The Eye of the VoidChapter 49: The Eye of the Void

The indigo sky of Sector Seven began to bleed into a toxic shade of crimson. It wasn't a weather change; it was a reality failure. Every time the spectral red eye in the clouds blinked, a portion of the horizon simply ceased to exist. No dust, no debris—just a hollow, gray void.

"It's not fighting us," Elara gasped, clutching her staff as the air itself felt like it was being sucked out of her lungs. "It's unmaking us."

Caelum stood at the bow of the silver-obsidian carrier. He could feel his own code flickering. The Oversight wasn't just a monster; it was a direct command from the Server's root directory.

"Master, the Glitch Legion is panicking!" Kira shouted, jumping onto the deck. "They can't hit it! Their arrows and spells just pass through that eye like it's a ghost."

"That's because it's not physically here," Caelum said, his voice calm despite the crumbling world around him. "It's a projection of the 'Final Admin'. To hit the eye, we have to stop fighting like players and start fighting like the source code itself."

Caelum closed his eyes. He didn't raise his Scythe. Instead, he opened his arms wide.

"Caelum, no!" Elara screamed.

Silver threads began to pull out of Caelum's chest, connecting directly to the ship and the city below. He was turning his own life-force into a massive firewall. If the Oversight wanted to delete the city, it would have to delete Caelum's entire existence first.

The Red Eye turned its full attention toward the carrier. A beam of pure, absolute silence shot down from the clouds. It was a Deletion Ray that could erase a mountain in a millisecond.

KABOOM—!

The collision between the silver fire and the red beam shook the entire server. Caelum's knees buckled. His hair began to turn white as the strain of holding back the System's 'Delete' command took its toll.

"I am... the error... you can't... fix!" Caelum roared, his silver aura turning into a blinding supernova of light.

Suddenly, the beam shattered. The Red Eye shrieked—a sound of screeching metal and dying static—and retreated back into the upper atmosphere. The formatting stopped. The crimson sky began to fade back to indigo.

Caelum collapsed on the deck, breathing heavily. He had saved the city, but at a cost. His level had dropped, and his silver energy was now flickering weakly.

"We survived," Kira whispered, helping him up.

"For now," Caelum replied, looking at his fading hands. "But the Eye didn't close. It just moved to Sector One. The heart of the machine. If we want to end this, we have to go there."
