Chapter 62 - Chapter 62: The Echoes of a Human Heart

The battlefield of Sector Zero was silent for a brief moment as the first wave of Shadow-Glitches retreated into the fog. Caelum stood on a jagged ridge, his silver-gold armor dimmed by the dust of deletion.

Kira approached him, her daggers sheathed, but her hands were trembling. "Caelum," she started, but her voice broke.

Caelum didn't turn around. "We have to keep moving, Kira. If we stop, the Oversight will stabilize the rift."

"Is that all you care about now?" Kira's voice was sharper this time. She stepped in front of him, forcing him to look at her. "Ever since you became the Architect, you talk like... like the System. Calculations, objectives, data. Do you even remember the first time we ate that burnt bread in Sector Nine?"

Caelum froze. The memory flickered in his mind—the smell of cheap flour, the cold wind, and the sound of Kira's laughter before they were rebels, before they were legends. For a second, the 'God-like' glow in his eyes faded, replaced by the tired look of a boy who had carried the weight of a world for too long.

"I remember," Caelum whispered, his voice finally sounding human. "I remember thinking it was the best thing I'd ever tasted because it was the first time I felt I wasn't alone in this code."

He reached out, his hand glowing not with power, but with a gentle warmth, and touched Kira's shoulder. "I'm not becoming the System, Kira. I'm fighting to make sure we can have that burnt bread again. Without a timer. Without a deletion command."

Kira's eyes softened, a single tear escaping. "Then don't lose yourself in the light, Caelum. We need our King, but I... I need my friend."

The moment was broken by a low growl from the darkness ahead. The Admin-Prime was coming. But this time, Caelum didn't just grip his Scythe for the mission; he gripped it for the people behind him.
