I checked again, running the system through another scan, but the result did not change. It stayed the same, cold and useless, like it had nothing to give me.
"No signal," I repeated, louder this time.
Frustration started rising fast, pushing against the control I had been holding onto. I hit the desk lightly with my hand, not enough to break anything, but enough to release something.
"They turned it off," I said, my voice tight.
Matteo stepped in behind me.
"Or it is damaged," he said.
I shook my head immediately.
"No," I replied. "It was working fine. It does not just stop like this."
I stared at the screen again, my breathing heavier now.
"Then they know," Matteo said slowly. "They know there could be a tracker."
That thought made everything worse.
Because it meant this was not just a simple kidnapping.
It was planned deeper than I thought.
I ran a hand through my hair, pacing once across the room before stopping again in front of the screen.
