~Salvatore's POV
I stood outside her door longer than I should have the next morning, and for a moment I just let myself stay there, thinking.
My hand had already lifted halfway toward the door, but I stopped before knocking because I remembered too clearly what it looked like when I did things without thinking. The way she reacted. The way everything in her changed in a second. So I lowered my hand again and forced myself to breathe slowly, like that would help me control something deeper.
Then I knocked. Just two soft taps that were careful enough not to break the silence inside the room.
After that, I did not move. I stayed right where I was, standing still with my hands behind my back, forcing my body to accept that waiting was now part of how I had to exist around her.
