Chapter 6 - 5

The wind did not calm after the Hollow's disappearance, instead it grew heavier, carrying an unfamiliar tension that spread quietly across Karakura Town, and standing under the dim night sky, Ichigo Kurosaki felt something he had never experienced before, not fear, not pressure, but uncertainty, the kind that came when facing something beyond understanding.

Zed remained still, his gaze fixed on the sky as if he could see beyond it, his presence calm yet completely out of place in this world, and for a brief moment, neither of them spoke, the silence stretching as if both sides were measuring something invisible.

"…You said something is pulling you here," Ichigo finally broke the silence, his voice steady but serious, "what does that mean?"

Zed's eyes shifted slightly. "It means this wasn't an accident."

Rukia's expression tightened. "Then someone brought you here?"

"…Or something," Zed replied.

Before Ichigo could ask more—

The sky distorted again.

But this time, it was different.

It wasn't chaotic like before.

It was controlled.

A thin, vertical tear appeared in the air, opening slowly like a door, and from within it, a dark, empty space revealed itself, silent, cold, and unnatural.

Ichigo's eyes narrowed instantly. "…That's not a normal Garganta."

Zed watched without moving.

"…No," he said quietly, "it's more precise."

From within the tear, a figure stepped out.

White.

Smooth.

Humanoid.

A mask fragment resting along the side of his face, his expression calm, almost indifferent.

An Arrancar.

Ichigo's grip tightened immediately. "…An Arrancar…?"

The figure's eyes scanned the area briefly, then stopped on Zed.

Not Ichigo.

Not Rukia.

Only Zed.

"…So you're the anomaly," he said flatly.

Zed looked at him, his expression unchanged. "And you are?"

The Arrancar ignored the question.

"The fluctuations began the moment you appeared," he continued, his voice emotionless, "the Hollows are evolving, the system is destabilizing… you are the cause."

Ichigo stepped forward. "Oi, don't just ignore me—"

The Arrancar moved.

Faster than before.

He appeared directly in front of Zed, his hand already extended, a condensed sphere of energy forming instantly.

"Cero."

A beam of destructive energy fired at point-blank range.

Ichigo's eyes widened. "Watch out—!"

But Zed didn't move.

The beam struck.

Light consumed everything.

The street was engulfed in a blinding explosion, buildings shaking as the force spread outward, the ground cracking under the pressure.

For a moment—

Nothing could be seen.

Then—

The light faded.

Zed stood there.

Unharmed.

Not even his clothes were damaged.

The Cero had stopped just inches from his body, its energy dissipating slowly as if it had been neutralized before making contact.

The Arrancar's eyes narrowed slightly for the first time.

"…So it's true."

Zed tilted his head a little. "You're stronger than the previous ones."

The Arrancar didn't respond immediately.

Instead—

His spiritual pressure surged.

Unlike the Hollows, it was stable, refined, controlled, yet far more dangerous, the air around him vibrating as he released more of his power.

"I was sent to observe," he said, "but it seems that won't be enough."

Ichigo stepped forward instantly. "Then you'll deal with me first!"

He dashed in, his blade cutting toward the Arrancar, forcing him to shift his attention, the two clashing in an instant, their movements fast and precise as sparks flew from each collision.

Zed watched silently.

"…He's holding back," Zed noted.

The Arrancar blocked Ichigo's strike with ease, countering with a kick that sent Ichigo sliding back, though not injured, just pushed.

"You're not my target," the Arrancar said calmly.

Ichigo smirked slightly. "Too bad. You don't get to choose."

He moved again, faster this time, forcing the Arrancar to engage properly, their fight intensifying as both sides increased their speed, the ground beneath them breaking apart from the impact of their clashes.

But even then—

Zed didn't move.

He simply observed.

Then—

He stepped forward.

The moment he did—

The Arrancar froze.

Not completely.

But enough.

His instincts reacted before his mind could process it, his body hesitating for a fraction of a second.

Zed was suddenly in front of him.

No sound.

No warning.

Just there.

The Arrancar's eyes widened slightly.

"…Impossible."

Zed looked at him calmly.

"You're not the one pulling me here," he said.

The Arrancar tried to move.

To attack.

To retreat.

But his body felt heavy, as if something had locked the space around him.

Zed raised his hand.

Just like before.

No energy.

No technique.

"…You're only reacting to it."

The Arrancar's expression changed for the first time, a flicker of tension appearing in his eyes.

"…What are you?"

Zed didn't answer.

His fingers moved slightly.

And in that instant—

The Arrancar's Cero core destabilized.

Not fired.

Not blocked.

But disrupted from within.

The energy inside his body spiraled out of control, his carefully maintained structure collapsing as cracks of light spread across his form.

"…No—!"

Before he could finish—

He disappeared.

Erased.

Just like the Hollow.

Silence returned once again.

Ichigo stood there, breathing slightly heavier, his eyes fixed on Zed with a completely different expression now.

"…You didn't even fight him."

Zed lowered his hand.

"There was no need."

Rukia stepped closer, her voice low. "That wasn't just power… that was control over the system itself."

Zed looked at the sky again.

"…No," he said quietly, "it's because I don't belong to it."

Ichigo clenched his sword slightly.

"…Then what happens if more like him show up?"

Zed's gaze sharpened faintly.

"They will," he said.

And as if confirming his words—

Far away, in the depths of Hueco Mundo, multiple eyes opened in the darkness.

Watching.

Waiting.

And at the center of it all, Sosuke Aizen stood silently, his hand resting against his face as his smile deepened ever so slightly.

"…Now this," he murmured, "is something worth studying."

Back in Karakura Town, the wind rose once more.

Stronger.

Colder.

Carrying with it a change that could no longer be ignored.

And Zed—

Still stood at the center of it all.

Unmoved.

Unshaken.

As if even this—

Was beneath him.
