Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Playing Hard to Get

Chapter 9: Playing Hard to Get

Wang Dong raised his chin and gave a haughty snort:

"Now, who still says it's fake?"

The entire room fell silent.

Just then, a male voice broke through the silence.

"The Goddess of Light Butterfly is universally recognized as the most beautiful Spirit in Douluo Continent, without exception."

Everyone looked in the direction of the sound.

A beautiful couple was walking along the tree-lined path not far away.

The boy who spoke had blond hair, wore a neat white Academy uniform, and had his hands in his pockets. His heterochromatic eyes held a hint of nonchalant amusement.

Beside him was a hot-bodied, yet aloof-looking black-haired girl.

The girl's hand was being held by the blond boy. Although she had a cold expression, her body was pressed against him honestly, like a kitten asserting its dominance over its food.

It was Dai Huabin and Zhu Lu who had just returned from a state of "fullness and comfort".

Dai Huabin never expected that his luck would be so bad. He had just come to scout out the place when he stumbled upon this classic scene of "Wang Dong'er showing off and getting slapped in the face".

He stopped and looked through the crowd, his gaze landing on the pair of beautiful butterfly wings.

I must say, it's really beautiful.

Even from his perspective based on his two lifetimes of experience, the appearance of this Spirit is top-tier.

Hearing someone not only call out the name of the Spirit but also give it such high praise, Wang Dong's anger subsided considerably.

She turned her head to look at Dai Huabin, thinking to herself: It seems that not everyone in this Academy is a good-for-nothing; there are still some discerning people among them.

"You have good taste."

Wang Dong toned down her arrogance somewhat, and her gaze towards Dai Huabin softened considerably.

"Finally, someone who knows what they're doing."

Dai Huabin smiled slightly and slowly led Zhu Lu forward.

The crowd that had been packed tightly together instinctively made way for the two when they saw their air of nobility and their impeccably tailored attire.

"Of course I understand."

Dai Huabin stopped three meters away from Wang Dong and said slowly:

"According to ancient records, this kind of Spirit only inhabits the purest Forest of Life. It is a miracle born from the convergence of the Spiritual energy of heaven and earth and the purest light element. It is not only a Spirit, but also the most beautiful soul beast in the world. Ordinary people have never even heard of it, let alone seen it."

This explanation left the older students around him completely bewildered.

Senior Li blushed, feeling ashamed of himself as a senior, as he was less knowledgeable than a freshman.

Wang Dong felt incredibly comfortable listening to this.

That's what you call professional!

That's what you call prestige!

She looked at Dai Huabin and found him more and more pleasing to the eye.

Although this golden retriever looks arrogant, it speaks nicely and is quite good-looking, much better than those country bumpkins.

"I didn't expect you to be so knowledgeable."

Wang Dong crossed her arms, still dressed as a cross-dressing master, but her tone now carried a hint of approval.

"Shall we get to know each other? My name is Wang Dong."

"Dai Huabin." Dai Huabin nodded lightly, as a return greeting.

Zhu Lu, standing beside him, frowned slightly.

Women's intuition is often frighteningly accurate.

Although the person in front of her, named Wang Dong, was a "man" and quite handsome, Zhu Lu still felt that there was something about her that made her uncomfortable.

Especially the way this person looked at Dai Huabin; it made her want to hide Dai Huabin away.

"Hua Bin, let's go, we still need to get to the dormitory building." Zhu Lu shook Dai Huabin's hand and reminded him softly.

"Yes, it's getting late."

Dai Huabin nodded, seemingly intending to leave just like that.

He turned around and took a step.

Then, as if suddenly remembering something trivial, he paused, turned around, and glanced again at Wang Dong, who was about to retract her Spirit.

That look in his eyes was very deep.

The profoundness of it made Wang Dong's heart skip a beat for no apparent reason.

"However…" Dai Huabin's tone was playful, yet also tinged with a strange doubt.

"But what?" Wang Dong asked subconsciously.

Dai Huabin looked Wang Dong up and down, his gaze lingering briefly before casually looking away.

"The Goddess of Light Butterfly has only awakened in one type of person throughout history."

After saying that, Dai Huabin left the registration area without lingering and immediately took Zhu Lu with him.

Wang Dong's heart clenched suddenly, as if someone had pinched it out of thin air.

Dai Huabin's eyes are incredibly sharp.

"Hey! You said something..."

Wang Dong was about to call out to him and ask for clarification, but she swallowed the words back down.

The room was full of new students and their parents, all craning their necks and their ears perked up.

If she were to shout loudly at this moment, wouldn't that be an admission of guilt?

She could only watch helplessly as that guy named Dai Huabin, leading that black-haired girl with a figure so good it made her furious, slowly turned and left.

That back view, no matter how you look at it, exudes an infuriating "I know your secret, but I'm not telling" vibe.

"That bastard..."

Wang Dong gritted her teeth, a hint of embarrassment and annoyance flashing in her pinkish-blue eyes.

From childhood to adulthood, she was the pampered little ancestor in the Clear Sky Sect, and everyone treated her with utmost respect.

She had never suffered such humiliation of being kept in suspense.

More importantly, what exactly did this guy figure out?

If that secret is exposed...

Wang Dong became increasingly panicked. Forgetting about filling out any forms, she threw her pen on the table and ran after him.

...

Dappled sunlight streamed down the tree-lined path.

Dai Huabin walked slowly; one could even say he was taking a stroll.

He sensed the hurried footsteps behind him, and a slight smile appeared on his lips.

The fact that Dai Huabin didn't expose Wang Dong'er in public was a way of giving her face, and it also showed that he didn't want to make an enemy of Wang Dong'er.

Dai Huabin left directly, knowing that Wang Dong'er would catch up.

"Hua Bin." Zhu Lu touched his arm, her voice tinged with doubt, "Wang Dong has caught up."

She turned around and gave a cold glance at the excessively handsome "boy" behind her.

For some reason, Zhu Lu felt a natural hostility towards Wang Dong.

This hostility wasn't due to provocation, but rather stemmed from an inexplicable sixth sense that this person's existence posed a significant threat to her.

"Let her chase."

Dai Huabin squeezed Zhu Lu's palm, his tone resolute.

"That's a proud little butterfly. If you ignore her, she'll suffocate."

"Tsundere?" Zhu Lu blinked. What kind of word is that?

Before she could figure it out, an angry shout came from behind her.

"Hey! You blondie! Stop right there!"

Dai Huabin stopped, turned around, and looked at Wang Dong, who was running over panting, with a leisurely air.

Wang Dong ran so fast that a blush rose on her delicate, pretty face, and fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead, making her look even more like a girl.

"My name isn't Hey, and it's not Golden Retriever."

Dai Huabin put his hands in his pockets.

"I have a name, Dai Huabin. If you still don't remember, I don't mind introducing myself again."

"Who cares what your name is!"

Wang Dong's eyes widened, like a kitten with its fur standing on end.

"What exactly did you mean by that? What do you mean by 'it will only awaken in one type of person'? Explain yourself clearly!"

As she spoke, she took a step forward in a bluffing manner, trying to intimidate the other person with her imposing presence.

Unfortunately, her height of just over 1.6 meters was hardly intimidating in front of the well-developed Dai Huabin.

Dai Huabin looked down at her, his gaze lingering for a second, before he sighed.

That was the look of "caring for children with intellectual disabilities".
