After spending some time upstairs, Valeria finished freshening up and made her way back downstairs. The familiar sounds coming from the kitchen made her slow her steps slightly. She could hear voices and the movement of dishes, and she knew immediately that her grandmother had returned. When she reached the doorway of the kitchen, she stopped.
Catherine was standing there beside Jamison, helping him finish up dinner. The two of them were moving around the kitchen comfortably, clearly used to working together after years of being mates. Catherine looked up and noticed her standing at the door and immediately, her eyes widened.
"Valeria!"
The excitement in her grandmother's voice made Valeria smile.
"Hi, Grandma."
Catherine did not wait another moment as she immediately walked over to her and pulled her into a crushing hug. "Oh, my sweet girl," Catherine said. "I thought your grandfather was pulling my leg when he said you were here."
