"Yes, I am," the dark-skinned young woman took out a thin piece of paper from the left drawer and handed it to Durin, still without looking up, speaking calmly. "Take a pen, sit down, and fill out this form."
Durin looked down at the student personal data file in his hand. The required information to fill in was: name, gender, date of birth, place of birth and race, residence, social relations, and the last column was whether or not he was a Mage Apprentice.
Pulling a ballpoint pen from the pen holder on the desk, Durin sat down on a nearby leather chair and began to fill it out.
The only place that made Durin hesitate was the social relations column. In this world, he had neither parents nor close friends. The only person he could call a friend was perhaps Miss Amy from Zaun's Ninth Street slum.
Oh, and she still owed him one silver lun coin.
That silver lun coin was probably hopeless to get back.
Durin didn't fill in Amy, leaving that line blank.
As for the last line, he chose to check the box.
After filling out the personal data file, Durin handed it back to the dark-skinned woman known as Ailis with both hands.
"An Ionian, and a Mage Apprentice?" Ailis glanced at the handed-over personal data file. Upon seeing the last line, she looked up slightly surprised, formally assessing Durin for the first time, and noticed the badge pinned to his chest.
Her previously expressionless face softened slightly. Ailis offered a professional smile and said, "Do you plan to pay for one semester or a whole year?"
"I'll pay for one semester first," Durin replied.
"According to the file you filled out, school dormitories are not available for residence. So, your tuition for one semester plus other fees totals 90 silver lun coins, which converts to 3 gold cogwheels and 18 copper circle coins," Ailis pushed up her black square-framed glasses on her nose. These glasses made her look somewhat rigid.
Durin took out 4 gold cogwheels from the inner pocket of his mage robe and laid them out in a row on the desk.
The dark-skinned woman nodded, reached out, took the four gold cogwheels from the desk, put them into the drawer, and then took out 6 silver lun coins to return to Durin.
Then, she took out a small red notebook and a printed admission letter from another drawer.
This small red notebook was the student ID, with the shape of Jindai Luo Sphere on its surface. When opened, Ailis used a pen to swiftly fill in Durin's personal information.
She then took a camera, took a picture of Durin, quickly developed a 4-inch photo, and pasted it on the first page of the student ID.
After that, she wrote Durin's name on the admission letter and signed her own name in the bottom right corner.
Finally, she stamped both with the Admissions Office's official seal and embossed them with a steel stamp.
"Welcome to Piltover University, Durin," Ailis stood up from her chair and handed Durin both the student ID and the admission letter, saying with a kind smile, "After the semester begins, every new student must choose a department, then study one language, one public technology, and one auxiliary course. If you are a Mage Apprentice, you will also need to enroll in an additional Elemental Rune Arcane Arts department."
"At the opening ceremony, you will need to choose one from the many departments and then sign your name on the roster. At that point, you will officially become a new student of that department."
Ailis took a sip from the water glass on the table and continued, "I suggest you take some time during this period to visit the library and consult some relevant books to prepare in advance. You can enter by swiping your student ID."
"Okay, I understand," Durin replied.
After all of this was handled, he left Office 402, carefully placing the admission letter and student ID into his inner pocket.
By the time he left Piltover University, it was already 4:30 PM. Durin had to hurry to the Hall of Justice in Piltover, also known as the Piltover Guard Headquarters.
He needed to get his temporary residence permit before the curfew was enforced tomorrow night.
The Piltover Hall of Justice is located in the Jindai Luo Sphere plaza. This location ensures the safety of the university and also allows for travel to different districts via tram routes.
