Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: Change and Meeting

Days later, in Italk, the snow began to lessen.

The shrine in the town center was already topped off; although a few stone slabs were not yet fully carved, the basic framework had been completed.

It was no longer a circular totem house but had been rebuilt into an elongated five-pillared arched hall.

Its central axis aligned with the main road leading north, to welcome future pilgrims.

The five stone pillars were engraved with the Dragon Eye Divine Emblem; it was no longer a place of worship for Mammoth but a place of faith for the Dragon God.

On a temporary stone platform at the main gate of the city wall, which was being rebuilt, Toka had piles of wooden plaques and simple beast-hide scrolls beside him.

These were all for registration.

The number of newly joined Ice Trolls was increasing daily, with the vast majority being young people in their early twenties.

The influence of Skala and others on their journey was becoming more and more apparent.

They came with doubts about the old loa, wanting to know if this new loa was truly willing to shelter them.

They might not have deep faith, but they were unwilling to stay in the past and wait for death.

"We can't let them live wherever they want," Gollon spread out a beast hide with writing on it in front of him. "This is newly organized by the captain. We will divide residences according to surname, combat power, and depth of faith."

"How do we know the depth of their faith?" Toka asked, puzzled.

"For now, we can only believe what they say," Gollon shrugged. "Besides, our Lord is watching from above; nothing will go wrong."

On the other side, in a tent near the shrine, Skala was discussing other arrangements with some Ice Trolls.

"We need a different management approach," Skala said straightforwardly. "The old system, relying on bloodline and elders naturally becoming chieftains, is no longer suitable."

Seven or eight newly gathered representatives crowded into the tent: hunters, witch doctor apprentices, and two female Ice Trolls who had previously been in charge of material distribution.

Most of them didn't quite understand why it was no longer suitable, but they didn't voice any objections.

Because this man had brought a new deity here, restoring peace.

Skala took out a prepared beast hide. "We need to establish positions, not naturally acquired statuses. Whoever does the work is in charge."

He pointed to the four words on the beast hide. "For example, our current affairs have four areas: basic government affairs, faith, military, and hunting. For each area, I need to find two people in charge, and if they don't do well, they'll be replaced."

"What if they don't comply?" a young hunter frowned.

"Then they will pray in the shrine, and our Lord will judge," Skala said, raising his hand to indicate the curtain embroidered with the divine emblem hanging in the tent.

The tent immediately fell silent.

Siye added in a low voice, "The shrine also needs a system. We need people to preach and answer questions. Many Ice Trolls who come to seek refuge have doubts in their hearts, but some questions are really difficult to answer."
