Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Truth That Shouldn’t Exist

Rain fell over Kolkata like the city itself was trying to wash something away.

But some things—

Couldn't be erased.

Liora hadn't slept.

Not after that night.

Not after those words.

Not after him.

"You don't belong in my world."

They echoed again and again, refusing to fade.

She stood near the glass window of her room, staring down at the quiet street below.

Everything looked normal.

Too normal.

And that scared her more than anything.

Her phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

She hesitated.

Then answered.

"…Hello?"

Silence.

Then—

"Miss Liora Sen?"

Her heart skipped.

"Yes… who is this?"

A pause.

"Someone who thinks you deserve the truth."

Her grip tightened.

"What truth?"

The voice lowered.

"The man you're engaged to… is not who you think he is."

Her breath stopped.

"…What?"

"Meet me if you want answers."

The call ended.

Just like that.

No explanation.

No second chance.

Liora stared at her phone.

Her first instinct?

Ignore it.

Walk away.

Forget everything.

But something deep inside her—

Refused.

That night—

She went.

The place was hidden in one of the older parts of the city, far from the polished lights and luxury she was used to.

A broken café.

Half-lit.

Almost abandoned.

And someone was waiting.

A woman.

Sharp eyes. Calm posture.

Dangerous presence.

"You came," the woman said.

"I want answers," Liora replied.

The woman studied her for a moment.

Then—

"You're braver than I expected."

"I don't feel brave," Liora said quietly.

A faint smirk.

"Good. That means you're not stupid."

"Who are you?" Liora asked.

"Someone who used to work with Kael."

Her heart froze.

"And now?" Liora asked.

"Now I work against the people he's trying to survive."

The air turned heavy.

"Then start talking," Liora said. "What does Arjun have to do with any of this?"

The woman didn't answer immediately.

Instead—

She placed a small device on the table.

Pressed a button.

A video played.

Grainy footage.

Dark room.

Two men talking.

And one of them—

Was Arjun.

Liora's breath caught.

"No…"

"…She doesn't know anything," Arjun's voice echoed from the video. Calm. Controlled. "Keep it that way."

"And Kael?" the other man asked.

A pause.

Then—

"Remove him."

The video ended.

Silence.

Pure.

Shattering.

"That's not possible…" Liora whispered.

But even as she said it—

She knew.

It was.

"He's not just some businessman," the woman said. "Arjun controls more than you think. Information. People. Situations."

Liora's voice shook.

"And me?"

The woman looked straight at her.

"You were never just his fiancée."

A pause.

Then—

"You were leverage."

That broke something inside her.

Her mind raced.

Every memory.

Every moment.

Every smile.

Fake?

"No…" she whispered.

But this time—

There was no one to deny it.

"Why are you telling me this?" Liora asked weakly.

The woman leaned slightly forward.

"Because you're the only variable he didn't plan for."

"…What does that mean?"

A small smile.

Cold.

Precise.

"It means… you're the reason Kael is still alive."

Her heart stopped.

"What?"

"He was supposed to disappear weeks ago," the woman continued. "But something changed."

Liora's voice dropped to a whisper.

"…Me?"

The woman didn't answer.

But she didn't need to.

Everything clicked.

That night.

That connection.

That chaos.

It wasn't random.

It was never random.

Liora stepped back slowly.

Her entire world—

Shifted.

"I need to see him," she said suddenly.

The woman's expression darkened.

"That's a bad idea."

"I don't care."

"You should."

Liora shook her head.

"No more secrets. No more running."

A pause.

Then—

"Tell me where he is."

The woman sighed softly.

"You're walking into something you won't be able to walk out of."

Liora's eyes hardened.

"Then I'll stop running from it."

For the first time—

She wasn't scared.

She was ready.

And somewhere—

In the shadows of the same city—

Kael stood alone.

Watching the rain fall.

Unaware—

That the girl he tried to protect…

Was already walking straight into the war he couldn't escape.
