Chapter 36 - The Answer

I didn't get a wink of sleep, while fully satisfied Abigail slept like a baby through the night. I was emotionally drained to the point of feeling numb, numb to the extent that my physical senses didn't connect with my mind anymore; my body no longer felt like mine.

Shortly after 6 AM, I decided I should leave. 

The mornings after nights like this with Abigail were always awkward, but at least she never seemed to care whether I was still there or not when she woke up. I had never been appreciated for sticking around, and neither had I ever been reprimanded for leaving either. 

Once I returned home, I sneaked into my room. I was dreading facing Senne again, but there was no escaping it. 

"Senne, I'm back."

I called out for her, timidly. 

But she did not respond. 

"Senne?"

As she remained silent, I was disappointed at myself for feeling relieved.
