A car, out of nowhere, sped past them. The car didn't stop, it kept going like nothing had happened with the same spead.
Everything went quiet for a second while Gabrielle's heart beat echoed in her ear, while Joan's body fall's to the ground. It happened so fast to make a meaning out of it. Gabrielle's eyes followed the car until it disappeared. She froze in shocked.
"What just happened?" She muttered under her breath.
Soon crowd gathered around the scene, some taking videos, pictures while some just to stare.
Gabrielle stumbled back in shock.
Eadlin held her.
"…Did you see that? Reckless drivers. " He asked shaking his head.
Gabrielle did not respond to Eadlin, instead she stood still like she just saw a ghost.
Something about that felt wrong, it was too sudden and well timed. Like some one or something had been waiting for her to make that wish. Or was it a coincidence? Gabrielle thought still frozen, unable to move from the shock.
"Th….. that's …...that is my friend." She said with a breaking voice as tears dropped from her left eye alone. "I just …..I did that?"
"You know her?" Eadlin asked.
"That is my friend" She said again, her voice came out low.
She ran toward the crowd pushing through people while she forced her way in.
"Move….please…..move!" she said, her voice shaking as she struggles through the crowd.
Finally, she got to where Joan laid. Her body on the floor looking paralysed while blood rushed out from her mouth. Gabrielle, on seeing her, rushed over to her, there eye met. Joan's eyes looked so weak and helpless while Gabrielle's was that of pity and guilt.
"I am sorry. " Gabrielle said crying. She raised Joan's head up so as to reduce the flow of the blood.
"Somebody please call the ambulance, please. " Gabrielle cried.
People were talking too many voices all at once.
Soon, the Ambulance arrived. The paramedics rushed over to Joan accessed her.
"Step back! Give us space!" One of the paramedic said as he pushes the students back.
They carefully lifted Joan, placed her on a stretcher, placed an oxygen mask on her face then starts to administer first aid. Talking to each other in low, fast voices. Gabrielle's hands were shaking her whole body felt weak.
"She's going to be okay, right?" she asked.
No one answered her directly.
By this time, Eadlin had gotten to where Gabrielle was.
"How is she?" Eadlin asked but no body replied him.
However, Gabrielle didn't move, she watched as Joan was taken into the ambulance.
"Let me come" Gabrielle requested.
"Then hop in." He offered.
"I will follow behind." Eadlin said.
"Sure."
As the ambulance was about to leave, a six cars entered, all black. One off road vehicle, two jeep one in font and one at the back, two police escort and one sport car at the middle. The cars entered in one after the other, taking time and obstructing the ambulance.
Eadlin, turned, saw the cars come in, his expression changed to anger.
After the cars entered, the ambulance left the scene and headed for the hospital.
Eadlin, knowing who it was, walked over to him. The car packed in an order, men in black came down of the car holding guns, while the police escort stayed in their car and some out. Students around watched from a distance unable to come close, some even started to take pictures of the vehicles.
Mr. Yungie stepped out of the car, his body guard surrounds him while one holds an umbrella over his head.
Eadlin walked over to where his father is angrily.
"Why did you do that?" He asked burning in rage.
"I don't have an excuse for anything I do."
" Someone could die because of you." Eadlin replied slightly raising is voice.
"Don't shout at me little boy." Mr. Yungie replied extremely calm. "You were not home yesterday. You know that is the time for family meetings. My team searched everywhere for you. Now answer me boy, where were you.?"
"I was with a friend." Eadlin answered calmly avoiding eye contact with his father.
"So, a friend is more important than my health, than the business, than your family. Today, be home." Mr. Yungie said and entered the car.
The cars drove out in the same order they entered. Eadlin stood at the same spot, he kept a straight face.
"Eady." Freddie called out to him. "Why was your dad here? I though he said he hates this school?"
"He wants me to attend the meeting." Eadlin replied and walked away.
In the ambulance, Joan is on a stretcher, one of the paramedics beside her holding the stretcher to prevent it from moving.
Gabrielle sat beside Joan. Her hands still shaking, tears still falling.
"This is my fault…" she kept saying over and over. "I didn't mean it… I didn't mean it…"
She looked at Joan.
Helpless.
Broken.
"Please wake up…" Her voice cracked. "I'm sorry…"
The ambulance kept moving.
Soon, the ambulance arrived at the hospital, Joan is rushed in. Gabrielle follows but was stopped by a nurse at the reception. Her hands and cloth were covered in blood. She asks for the bathroom, the nurse points at the direction. She cleaned her self but it did not wash off completely.
"I killed my friend….no it has to be a coincidence." She thought a while before leaving the bathroom.
She goes back to the reception, at the reception, the nurse gives her a bill. She looks at it shocked.
"Don't worry her insurance covers like half and also we have called her parent. " The nurse said and then exits.
Few minutes later, a Porsche drives in. A man in black comes out, opens the passenger's door. As the man walked in, the atmosphere changes, everyone was staring. Three body guard follows. He is a man in his mid forties, his suits well styled and neat, his charisma, as bright as a newly purified gold. He walked over to the counter.
"I am here for my daughter. Joan." He spoke to the Receptionist. His words were as polish as he looked and his voice clear as crystal pronouncing every word like they were a gift.
Gabrielle sat in shock. She had never met Joan's parent. Although she knew Joan was from a wealthy family but she was so not expecting that much wealth. Joan however, believes she should work for her money and not rely on her parents money alone. Joan does not like Eadlin because she thinks he is proud and arrogant just like Fade.
The nurse led Joan's father, Mr. Julius to the ward where his daughter was. Gabrielle followed behind uninvited.
The ward she was kept was like a luxury hotel, the one which money alone could not get. Gabrielle looked at it shocked.
He was not allowed to enter but he could see her from outside. She had her bandages on her leg, hand and head an oxygen mask on her. Gabrielle on seeing her began to weep, quietly.
"The doctor will be with you in a bit." The nurse said and then leave not noticing Gabrielle.
Suddenly, Mr. Julius turned back like he suspected something. His eyes met with Gabrielle.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" He said staring at the traces of blood on her shirt.
"I am Gabrielle. Joan is my friend. We both work at the University Cafeteria close to our High school sir." She replied shaking.
"Gabrielle….Gabrielle…" He kept calling the name like he was trying to recollect. "Joan speaks well of you." He added nodding.
The doctor walked in. Gives Mr. Julius a hand shake and then said;
"Joan is fine, she suffered a bit of a concussion and broken bones. Also some internal bleeding but after a while she would be fine."
"Let me know how much it would cost, put her in your best ward. Take good care of her for me." The wealthy man pleaded.
"We will do our best sir." The doctor took a bow and left like he was performing. It seems like something he does often.
"Who ever did this to my J baby will pay with his own blood. Find the car, the person, all involved and report them to me." Mr. Julius commanded.
One of the body guard leaves.
He stares at Joan, he places his hand on the window as if he wants to reach out to her. Gabrielle's mind melt seeing this.
"I would be on my way sir. I have to get to class." Gabrielle said unable to hold in the guilt she is feeling.
"It is fine Gaby. Take her."
"Yes sir" One of the body guard replied.
The drive back to school was silent in the car while in the Gabrielle's mind was a whole lot of war.
Her mind kept wandering around the strange incident that had been happening since she woke up in Eadlin's room. From her hair strand changing colour to the food in the bathroom now Joan. She blames her self for wanting her friend dead and because of this it came to pass.
"If a wish caused all these, it should be able to fix it back." Gabrielle thought but she had her fears, the fears of things going out of hand or something wrong happening.
The driver drove skillfully into the compound of the school.
"Thank you sir" Gabrielle said as she dropped at school.
Gabrielle could barely focus through out school for the day.
"Gabrielle wait behind.. " The class teacher called her back. "You don't have to be here if you are not fine. I heard what happened to your friend. I am so sorry. Don't be hard on yourself. Take a break, I will speak to the University cafe manager so you can take a break. "
The woman said with a warm smiled then allowed Gabrielle to go. Gabrielle could not just nod it off.
She then went to the library after that, searched through the internet.
he walked into the library, sat at a place for computers and then searched on the net' "what is the name of the ability where by a person's wish comes to pass."
She clicked on the search button and the next thing that appeared...…
WITCH!!!
