Because I think I am in love with you.
Eadlin said within himself while he just stared at her.
"I can't today Eadlin. I have something to sort out. I promise, I will make it up to you." Gabrielle replied with a half smile.
"Sure. " He replied then walked up to Freddie who was a few feet away from him.
Fade who had been watching, waiting for an avenue to approach Eadlin. Som2times I cant help but wonder why she would not just let him be.
"Hi E." She said then giggled. "You get E for Eadlin. E?" she added giggling.
"Ohhh mehnnn" Freddie said weakly as he rolled his eyes.
They walked out together with Fade doing all the talking.
However, at Gabrielle's side,
Gaby packs her bag while the magic twin argues.
"Can you guys stop that?" Gabrielle said frustrated.
"He started it."
"She started it."
They said together.
"Whatever." She said angrily then paused. " I wont be attending the rehearsal today."
"Why " They said together.
"One, you guys give me headache and two, I haven't been able to reach Joan so I have to cover for her at the school cafeteria."
"Alex will cover for you." Ariel offered.
"He will?" Alex asked surprised.
"See you later." Gabrielle said, stood up and started walking towards the door.
"No you cant….see later." Ariel said following her. Alex although confused, picked up the bag and followed.
"I found out what you are"
Gabrielle paused immediately then turned slowly to Ariel.
"Who am I?"
"According to history, they were kicked out of the land of magic because they were considered to be dangerous." Alex added.
"Can you guys come with me to the cafeteria, so we can talk on the way and also talk there?"
"Guess who is thinking?" Ariel said smiling.
"Surely not you." Alex replied laughing.
They walk together to the cafeteria but on their way, Alex and Ariel kept playing, arguing and fighting. After a while, they got to the school cafeteria.
"You guys." Gabrielle called out angrily. "Cant you concentrate. Now back to the whole magical stuff." She said then gave them apron and head net.
"He started it."
"She started it."
They said together again.
"Stop behaving like kids." She said then sighed.
Gabrielle signed in and Ariel signed in for Joan.
Ariel and Gabrielle were both put in charge of food serving although different stand while Alex was in charge of maintaining an orderly line, well if that includes flirting because he added it. At first, it was easy but when the line kept increasing which was making Ariel loose her cool while her twin was doing so well in keeping the girls company.
Eadlin enters with Freddie and Fade. Gabrielle from her side saw them but pretended not to.
"You really want to eat here again?" Fade asked.
"Does your mouth not pain you from all the talking?" Freddie asked concerned.
They stood parallel to Gabrielle stand.
"Eadlin, why here?" Freddie asked. "The others are waiting outside. Today is Jason's father's birthday and we have to be there."
"Yeah thats true."
"We can go together as a date." Fade said holding Eadlin. "My Boyfriend and I." She added smiling looking at him.
"I thought you two broke up?"
"Naa, soulmate." She said then held Eadlin's head and kissed him.
Gabrielle looked up and saw the scene. She paused a little then looked down. Paying little to no attention to what she was doing, she mistakenly spilled the soup on the person in front of her.
"I am very sorry." She said as she wiped in a hurry.
Murmuring filled the air.
"What on earth did you do Gabrielle?" A woman in her late 50's, little beard, chubby with a very annoying squeaky voice.
Those on Gabrielle line moved quickly to another line so as to avoid the The Cafeteria Supervisor.
"It is fine ma." The lady, blonde and really pretty with blue eyes, she looked like the imagination of the guys came to life.
The lady immediately stepped forward.
"It was my fault," she said gently with a calm smile. "I was on my phone."
The cafeteria supervisor blinked. A woman famous for finding fault in almost everything.
"Oh... well..." The supervisor adjusted her glasses awkwardly. "Accidents happen."
Gabrielle almost choked because she was smiling. The same woman who once made a student cry because they arranged spoons in the wrong direction.
"A terrible person can smile?" Gabrielle muttered.
"No problem at all, just be more careful next time." She said then walked away yelling at the other workers.
"Yes ma," Gabrielle replied very confused.
The woman bent down and helped Gabrielle to her feet before taking the cloth from her hand.
"Here," she said softly. "Let me help you."
Why is she so kind? Gabrielle thought as she starred at the woman.
"You don't have to."
Together they cleaned the spilled soup.
Ariel, who had been watching from her stand, narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
"That lady looks familiar. Don't she?." Ariel asked her brother through her mind.
Alex is seated not
"She does" Alex replied.
Outside the cafeteria, Eadlin pushed the door open and stormed out. The door slammed behind him.
"Why are you angry at me?" Fade asked as she hurried after him.
Eadlin stopped walking. His patience had finally snapped.
"Is that supposed to be a question?" he repeated.
"Yes."
"What part of it's over do you not understand?"
Fade's face fell."You don't mean that."
"I do."
"No, you don't." She said this time shaking.
Eadlin laughed weirdly more of frustrated.
"You never gave us a chance."
"It is hard to give it a chance when the other party keeps cheating"
The argument continued until a loud frustrated groan interrupted them.
Freddie stood there and watched. The more he stared the more his anger rose.
He placed both hands on his ear and yelled out angrily.
"Enough!"
Both of them went silent. Those around stared a bot before walking on.
"Seriously, enough!"
Freddie pointed at Fade.
"Fade, he doesn't love you."
Then at Eadlin.
"Stop answering every single thing she says."
"I wasn't"
"You were." Freddie replied breathing heavily.
Freddie let out a long breath.
"Fade," Freddie continued. "You know he doesn't love you, but you keep hoping one day he will wake up and suddenly realize you're his soulmate."
Fade looked away.
Neither of them spoke.
Freddie shook his head.
"I don't care anymore."
He turned.
" We are already late. You are not gonna ditch your bestfriends's father's birthday"
Then he pointed toward both of them.
"You guys can continue this drama without me."
Without waiting for a response, Freddie walked toward his car, opened the door, entered and then started the engine. A few seconds later, the car pulled out of the parking lot. Fade and Eadlin stood quietly watching until it disappeared completely.
The silence that followed was awkward for both of them.
Fade looked down.
Eventually, Eadlin started walking toward his own car while Fade remained where she was.
"Bye," she said in a very low tone as she waved.
A few minutes later, inside the cafeteria at the cooking area, the lady washed her hands and turned toward Gabrielle.
"I am Kady," she said with a smile. "Kady with a K, not a C."
Gabrielle laughed. "That is very specific."
"You would be surprised how many people get it wrong."
She reached into her handbag and handed Gabrielle a card.
The card was elegant, white with silver lettering.
"I don't attend this school," Kady continued. "I only came to visit a friend."
Gabrielle nodded. "Ohh, okay. Well, thank you for helping me."
"You're welcome." For a moment Kady simply stared at her more like she was studying her.
Gabrielle smiled awkwardly.
While Kady she smiled back.
"I should get going." Before Gabrielle could reply, Kady turned and walked away.
Ariel watched her leave.
"Who is she?" Ariel said trying to recollect.
Later that day, Gaby and the twins went home together looking very exhausted. On getting home, they all went straight to bed without talking to eachother.
Meanwhile, Joan remained unconscious on the stone platform where she is chained to in the world. Beside her, Serf stood observing.
"Is she ready?" Kady asked as she entered approaching him.
"See for your self." He replied smiling. "Get up." He yelled at Joan.
Joan's eyes opened suddenly, she sits up, looked around a bit but here is the thing,
she does not look confused. She simply sat up.
The chains around her wrists fell away immediately as though they had never been locked.
Joan stood to her feet.
"Joan."
"Yes."
Her response came immediately.
Kady watched quietly.
"Tell me your mission," Serf instructed.
Joan looked straight ahead.
"My mission is to find Gabrielle's power." She paused. "And her weakness."
A satisfied smile appeared on Serf's face. "Good."
Kady finally stepped forward without saying a word, she stretched her hand towards Joan's forehead. A faint silver light appeared between them. For a brief moment Joan's eyes glowed then it disappeared.
"Did it work?" Serf asked.
Kady closed her eyes.
A few seconds later, she smiled.
At the exact same moment Joan smiled too.
The same smile.
The same expression.
The same movement like they were reflections of one another.
Kady opened her eyes.
"Yes."
Serf looked interested.
"You can see through her?"
Kady nodded.
"I can see what she sees."
A brief pause.
"I can hear what she hears."
Serf's smile widened. "Access to existing knowledge?"
"No."
Serf smile disappeared. "Then test it."
"I already did. We will use her that way. There is no time to waste, those hopeless twins are with Jasta already."
Serf paced around.
"Go."
