Gideon returned at midnight, only to find Adeline asleep in his room.
'Did she wait for me?' he wondered. He moved quietly, pulling the duvet over her shoulders to cover her before stepping into the washroom. After a long, cold shower, he returned to the bedroom wearing only a bathrobe.
Running his fingers through his damp hair, he sank into a chair. He sat in silence, staring at Adeline for a long time, watching the steady rise and fall of her chest. Eventually, he changed into something more comfortable and headed downstairs to find something to eat in the kitchen.
While checking the refrigerator, he found nothing that appealed to him.
"What would you like to eat? I will cook for you," Adeline's voice reached his ears, followed by a small yawn.
"Did I wake you?" he asked, turning to face her.
