Chapter 5 - First training session

It took Kai a moment to realize that Serah was still holding onto him.

"You can let go."

"No."

"The bear is already dead."

"I know."

The twelve wolves watched them from the edge of the clearing. The B-rank wolf had an expression that, if it were human, would be that of someone who preferred not to get involved in this.

Kai looked at Serah's arm around his torso. It was a firm grip but not uncomfortable. Technically, he could breathe just fine.

He decided it wasn't worth the energy to argue.

'This is weird.'

'But okay.'

---

[GarcíaFTW: SERAH WON'T LET GO LMAO]

[NocheEterna99: the B-rank wolf has the same face I have right now]

[StreamerHunter: Kai assessed the situation and decided it wasn't his problem. Wisdom.]

---

The trip back took longer than the trip there.

Not because of the distance. But because Serah insisted on walking half a meter from Kai instead of the usual three meters, and the twelve wolves now following them took up considerably more space than before.

The B-rank wolf walked at the back of the group.

Every time Kai looked back, the animal looked away.

'Interesting.'

[Beast Resonance active — 12 entities within influence range]

[Note: Entities have reduced their following distance from 8 meters to 3 meters.]

[The system interprets this as an increase in trust.]

[The system does not know if that is good or bad for the user.]

---

They reached the edge of the forest as the sun began to set.

The wolves stopped at the tree line. The B-rank wolf was the last to stop. It looked at Kai for a long moment.

Kai looked back.

The B-rank wolf sat down.

'What does it want?'

Kai raised one hand. Not in greeting — more like acknowledgment. The kind of gesture you make when someone did their job well and there's nothing more to say.

The B-rank wolf tilted its head slightly.

'Ah.'

Kai kept walking toward the city.

---

[NocheEterna99: KAI JUST GREETED THE B-RANK WOLF LIKE HE WAS A BUDDY]

[GarcíaFTW: and the wolf tilted its head. BRO RESPECTS HIM]

[StreamerHunter: this is the nicest thing I've seen on this stream and I also watched Kai kill an A-rank in three hits]

[Gift received: Gold Coin x500 — User: unknown]

[System: fourth attempt to identify unknown user. Result: failed.]

---

The guildmaster was waiting at the guild door when they arrived.

That wasn't what he normally did. Kai noticed.

"The report arrived before you did," said the guildmaster. "Three advance scouts saw the clearing from a distance. The corruption is gone."

"Yes."

"In less than an hour from when you entered the zone."

"Yes."

The guildmaster looked at Serah. Serah looked back. The guildmaster looked at Kai again.

"The payment is ready. And…" He paused. "There's another matter."

"What?"

"Three guildmasters from neighboring cities are going to want to talk to you tomorrow. What happened in Sector 7 isn't something that normally occurs."

"Tell them to come at noon," said Kai. "Not before."

"Why not before?"

"Because I'm training in the morning."

---

[GarcíaFTW: 'tell them to come at noon because I'm training in the morning' — his priorities are correct]

[NocheEterna99: three guildmasters want to meet with him and he scheduled it like it's an inconvenience between two important things]

[StreamerHunter: Kai: kill corrupted A-rank = work. Morning training = priority. Guildmaster meeting = inconvenience.]

---

That night, in the inn room he paid for with interdimensional coins, Kai checked his system status before sleeping.

[Session progress — Chapter 5]

[Combat completed: 1 — Corrupted A-rank]

[Techniques applied: trajectory deflection, joint-angle strike, reorientation jab, center knee]

[Micro-corrections recorded during combat: 23]

[Skill: Martial Arts Mastery — UNRANKED]

[Internal progress: continuing to accumulate.]

[The system notes that the user still does not care about the rank.]

[The system also notes that this seems to be working.]

Kai closed the screen.

Serah was sitting by the window, looking outside.

"You don't sleep?"

"I don't need to sleep as often as you."

"How often?"

"Once every three weeks."

Kai processed that.

"What do you do the rest of the time?"

"I observe."

Pause.

"Now I observe you."

Kai looked at her. Serah didn't look away from the window.

'That should feel weirder than it does.'

"Good night," said Kai.

"Sleep well," replied Serah. "Tomorrow I want you to teach me another technique."

"Tomorrow I train first."

"I know. I'll observe."

Kai turned toward the wall and closed his eyes.

Three meters outside the inn, in the street, something large stopped for a moment.

It sniffed the air.

And kept walking. Still 38 km to the north. Still slow. Still steady.

[ALERT — update]

[SSS entity: current distance 38 km. Speed unchanged.]

[The system has decided to stop recommending that the user do anything about it.]

[It's clearly not going to work.]

---

Kai woke before dawn.

The first thing he noticed was that he wasn't cold.

The second thing was why.

Serah was next to him, the heat of her body completely different from a human's. The silver markings on her skin glowed very faintly in the darkness.

Kai stared at the ceiling.

'Did this happen?'

'Okay.'

He got up without making a sound, grabbed his clothes from the floor, and went out into the hallway.

[Stream activated]

[Current viewers: 3,241 — night viewers]

---

[NocheEterna99: GOOD MORNING KAI]

[GarcíaFTW: IT'S 5AM BRO WHY ARE YOU AWAKE]

[StreamerHunter: I've been watching a black screen for 4 hours. I regret nothing. Good morning.]

---

"Hey guys, I have to train, and it's better to do it early to start the day right."

The inn's backyard was empty at this hour.

"Since you'll be watching this, you can take it as an example to train too."

Kai spent forty minutes on his routine: joint stretches first, then hip mobility, then the first slow katas. No music. No counting. Just the rhythm he'd had since he was twelve.

[Micro-progression detected. Logging.]

[Technique: base kata — correction in left heel pivot. Logged.]

---

At forty minutes, Serah appeared.

She hadn't made any noise coming down. She was just there, leaning against the back door frame, wearing the same clothes as always, her hair still loose.

She watched him finish the kata.

"I want to learn," she said.

Kai looked at her.

"What part?"

"The part that makes you dodge without moving."

'Weight shifting.'

"That takes time," said Kai.

"I have time."

---

[GarcíaFTW: SERAH WANTS TO LEARN]

[NocheEterna99: 'what part?' 'the part that makes you dodge without moving' — she's been analyzing everything]

[StreamerHunter: viewers: 118,000 in 3 minutes. People know when something's about to happen.]

---

Kai evaluated her first.

"Hold this."

Direct punch to the right shoulder. Ten percent of his output — enough to move a B-rank hunter three steps back.

Serah didn't move.

Not a millimeter.

'Good. She has a foundation to work with.'

"Now you attack me," said Kai. "What you'd normally do."

Serah extended her hand.

The air around them cooled four degrees in half a second. A crystalline ice spear, perfect, the size of an arm, formed and shot toward Kai's chest at a speed the normal human eye wouldn't have followed.

Kai turned fifteen degrees to the right. The spear passed ten centimeters from his side and embedded itself in the stone wall at the back, where it stayed vibrating.

The chat took two seconds to process what they'd just seen.

---

[GarcíaFTW: THAT WAS AN ICE SPEAR]

[NocheEterna99: HE DODGED AN SSS-RANK ICE SPEAR BY TURNING 15 DEGREES]

[StreamerHunter: the spear is stuck in the wall. The wall is STONE.]

---

"Good," said Kai, looking at the spear in the wall. "Now I know your speed range. Class starts."

Serah looked at him.

"That's all you say?"

"What else should I say?"

Serah processed that for a moment.

"Nothing," she concluded.

---

Kai showed her the basic guard — left foot forward, weight distributed 60-40, shoulders aligned, elbows in.

Serah copied it perfectly on a visual level.

Then Kai gave her a gentle lateral push, and the primordial instinct activated on its own. Her feet spread to double their width, her body lowered its center of gravity, her hands took a claw position.

Beast stance. Efficient for what it was. Useless for what Kai wanted to teach her.

"Again," he said.

Serah returned to the guard. Kai pushed. Primordial instinct. Beast stance.

"Again."
